hi guys, ive been having a couple of problems with my steering recently, took it to renault who said it was my inner tie rod ends, replaced these for the problem to still be here... when sitting on the motorway at about 60-70 with both hands on the steering wheel(keeping the steering perfectly straight) every so often car starts goin mental and veering off in all different directions even though my steering wheel stays straight... sometimes traction light blinks sometimes not so i decided to strip down both sides today and the only thing i could find wrong is pictured below http://i59.tinypic.com/mb1od3.jpg as i believe this is the swivel hub? it is stiff as anything, could barely even move it when i disconnected the track rod end, drivers side was free and easily moved but passenger side is a different question. could any of you knowledgeable people diagnose my problem? if it helps, i also had wheels tracked and balanced as at 90 mph on motorway i have a horrible vibration. Thanks, Danny
would this cause the above problem of car swerving all over place when steering wheels straight? i forgot to mention steering self centres no problem
Yeah it will cause the above, It's not the bearing you've circled tho, there's one in the lower part of the hub that fails
yeah i understand its the lower bearing thats the problem, jus circled the whole thing that was stiff lol jus didnt want to spend money on things that wouldnt fix the damn problem lol
Its more a question of how much food does Mark require. Leave a shopping bag full of goodies in the car and he'll be very happy. Lol
but that doesnt put a price on him posting me out his spare hub, all nice and refreshed and i send him back my smelly old one
My car tramlines like a bitch at the moment but the steering is light and self centres immediately. The hubs turn easily with the track rods disconnected. Hub bearing, lower arm or something else?
sounds like mine before i replaced inner tie rods be sure to get genuine renault parts though, as my dad says 'buy cheap buy twice' and the non standard ones was about an inch shorter
Done those, and the outers, and the bush on the passenger side. Still meaning to tighten the yoke on the rack. The car scared the fuck out of me earlier. Coming back in after an overtake the camber of the road made it want to go left and right both at the same time.
I'm going to take it to the guy who fitted the arms, get the tracking checked, yoke tightened, and a thorough inspection of suspension parts for play. I had tramliming in my old car, an E36 328i, and that was always balljoints in the wishbone. It went through them very quickly.
Found play in my near side lower bearing today.....what's the chances the bolts just loose? Was told tent had been refuted before I bought it.
You can tighten the bolt but if the bearing is on its way out the bolt will only loosen itself again.
I'm just kind of hoping that whoever done the swivel bearing (if it was done at all) didn't tighten it properly....would I get play in the bearing if it wasn't fully tight? If not where can I get a bearing? Anyone on here do them?
I have tried to mail you but your inbox was full. Could you supply the bearing for me to fit? Whereabouts are you in the world?
Is the lower swivel avaliable from renault or do they need sourcing elsewhere. stripped mine this eve and need the lower fairly urgently. Car now stuck on the ramp..
