Hey guys just found this forum while browsing on the "other one". Im returning to RenaultSport after having owned one of the few ClioSports172 down here in Panama from 04-09, what a a great little car that was! I had pretty much disconnected from Renault after reading about the awesome R26.R when at the annual car show that takes place down here there was a liquid yellow 265 on the stand. After looking at the awesome styling, reading the spec sheet and the price (at current rates its about 18k pounds equivalent) oh and absolutely blasting one on the test drive I decided to buy one of the 7 cars that had been brought by the dealer. The specs: Cup chassis with LSD Recaros 18" wheels Xenons and folding mirrors Glass roof Dark Grey called Cassiopee Gray whatever that means Oh and just found out today while fiddling with it that it also has the RS Monitor! Im still not sure if the engine needs a break in period or not, at the dealers they told me that it wasn't necessary but that just tried to be sensible with the car so I'm doing that mostly, its so difficult though, the car just wants to go! Well hope I haven´t bored you with my story guys, heres the only pic ive taken so far
Welcome along buddy, car looks awesome with a great spec too! I bet there is some great roads in Panama! !
Another RSM international member! Be sure to get some pics up even if it's just the country an not the car
Thanks for all the welcomes guys! There are some nice roads mostly outside the city and a couple of great ones like an hour's drive away from the city. The city streets are a bit hectic right now as they are working on building a subway sistem so alot of broken streets and traffic at the moment sadly, but still plenty of places left for the RS to stretch its legs. I have a couple of questions which I will look at the proper place to ask them as I fear the dealer wont be much help with technical queries being as its the first RenaultSports cars they are selling. Cheers!
Welcome, so nice that meg. I´m from méxico, i hope we ´ll having that 265 soon over here, i own an 225. Take care of the suspension they are not made for american roads
Hey good stuff another latin american in here. Im surprised that we got the car before mexico..! I think you mean they are not made for crappy latin american roads jeje... yeah definitely taking care of the ride, although I gotta say even thou the ride is very stiff its also well damped.
So there is supposed to be a run in period? If so whats the highest you can get the revs to 3500? I would really appreciate to know for sure as even thou I'm not thrashing the car just yet every once in a while I do feel like stomping on the gas pedal!
Hi there, welcome, good to hear these cars are selling over the pond, I didn't think renault sold them there. theres defo a run in period I've only had one new car and that was for the first 1k miles, the dealer said up to 3500 rpm but it wasnt a renault. It's very hilly where I am so it's not always possibleto keep it below that. Taking it steady especially when it's first started will help. TO be honest if petrol over here was $3 a gallon I'd be tempted to stomp on the gas more
Taken from the handbook. RUNNING IN - PETROL VERSION: Up to 600 miles (1000 km) do not exceed 78mph (130km/h) in top gear or 3000 -3500 rpm. You may only expect top performance of your vehicle after approximately 1800 miles (3000 km) Hope that helps. You should be able to download a copy of the handbook from the Renault website.
Hey Spooky thanks alot for your clarification. I remember looking at the handbook but didnt notice that, perhaps I was overloaded with info. Well I have taken it above 130 km/h a couple of times more like 170 actually oh well, I hope its not such a big deal on the long run for the engine. But will definitely stick to the run in upto de 1000 km mark, thanks again!
You're welcome! I'm the same as you, i tried to keep to within the run in figures but went over them a couple of times. Once it's run in, or after a couple of months, check your oil, if they gave you a 1 litre bottle of the stuff your may have to put this in. Newish engines can use up oil.
They didn't give me a litre of oil but I do have to take the car in for a 1,000 km inspection so I suppose they will look at that, and I will check up as well.
Best way to run a new car in is by driving it hard IMO, means the rings will actually seal properly. Had a couple of rebuilt engines before and one brand new one and have always taken it easy for 50-100 miles to let stuff bed in a bit then gave it death, never had any issues and when they had been on the rollers they were always among some of the strongest engines they had seen
Oh come on man, you're not helping! jeje now I'm feeling very inclined to go this route...its so much more fun above 3500 revs
