Well guys I said i'd throw up a thread to keep everyone updated on how things are going on the build of the clio with the megane engine So this is how the car started That lasted about a week or so lol then it was time to start changing bits and pieces In comes the 25mm spacers all round The KW v1s And down + out it goes Well the plan from the start was always to push for bigger power, I missed the power I had from the 5dr clio on itbs I built so fancied a bit of boost this time around. And the donor car arrived Had the day after St Paddys day off, and with an absolute raging hangover I started about getting the car stripped Out it comes And what all the fuss is over really Havn't had a look at the internals yet because that just wasn't wise with the hangover I had, but its moving in the right direction anyway. But i'll say one thing, not knowing which sensors are missing and what each does is going to be a total pain. Thats the shell stripped of everything useful, sellable etc so it can go off to be scrapped now On to searching for the loom and ecu if the internals check on out
Well bank holidays are where the magic happens, megane engine stripped and rebuilt with some arp rod bolts to be on the safe side of things, new gaskets and all timed up fresh as a daisy Can't beat working in the sun, though now im sporting some sort of tan you'd usually see outside the local nightclub Quick lick of paint, on with the miltek decat heat wrapped and just waiting on some more parts to arrive. Need some pipework and links and I can get started in fabricating the intercooler stuff and then on to the exhaust. It has arrived but I just need to get everything in place and then work up a link pipe and we aren't far off ready to roll. Still searching for an engine loom and ecu from a megane, absolute pain in the hole to find These are the tailpipes of the system I went for, it's going to be snap, crackle and poptacular once i'm done with it I need to work out what I can do with the turbo oil feed pipe you can see has been cut off, either replace with renault (expensive I imagine) or just used a universal braided hose and get ends to fit block and turbo. Any thoughts?
Another delivery, started to work my way through Renault's spaghetti junction of a coolant system. Not a great jigsaw when the originals to work off were a melted puddle of rubber lol And a nice shiny recirc valve where it was previously blanked off for a dump valve, don't think I want a super loud TTTTSSSSSSSHHHHHH so this'll do the job nicely, i'll look like i'm sponsored by forge by the end of this build
Well i've been busy what seems to be every weekend and was doing my nuts in because I know the electrics and ecu coding are going to be one of the toughest and possible time consuming parts so one evening I threw the head up and knocked it out in a couple of hours. Just a couple of teaser pics, need to weld in a "sports cat" with a link section, get the electrics sorted and then I can map it Hopefully no hiccups Would have had this done and out in probably 2-3 hours but of my retarded torx keys snapped on me.... twice Got the loom and ecu out pretty sharpish, all labeled up incase I forget Both ends of this b*stard So out came the torch Which resulted in Garage has been tidier tho
Not much happening other than gathering dust, once the ecu comes back and the IC pipework from powdercoaters it's plug and play and see whats missing, sensor wise and small hoses. The likes of the breather plate, where the actuator and recirc pipework go to/from... things like that Some photos to keep people happy The exhaust system, old vs new And pretty much how its been sitting since the last update Hopefully something more fun soon, looking forward to see if it starts ok. Also been stock piling some speed lines, unsure whether to go all black or stay with an anthracite colour. Also re-trimming the recaros once I have this stuff out of the way
Lol got the wow part, cheers!! No clio manifold is redundant with the miltek downpipe and then i've made a link pipe between it and the ktec system. I've had the go pro videoing the whole thing while i've been working away so you'll be able to see the welding and that to fit the link pipe once I get a time lapse video together
You finished this yet mate? I decided to change my mind and just bought a 265 cup instead lol, clio is gone now. Awesome to say the least.
Sorry buddy should have updated it, just been lazy After starting to throw the head up things started to arrive for me first up was the boost pipe and the all important ecu While I was waiting for the ecu I was on the hunt for leather and alcantra so that I could retrim the recaros, edge automotive would have been a great option but they dont post and its quite the trek from over here. Out of the blue a set from capital seating came up really cheaply so snapped those up quickly Once the intercooler stuff arrived I got stuck in to geting it all fitted, only have blue silicone bends at the moment but i'll change those for red or black at some stage, I just wanted it fitted After a hunt for a few sensors, one way valves and pipes from renault I got everything crammed back in to the engine bay. Relocated a scenic coolant tank and the odyssey battery went into the glove box. Just needs a little bit more tidying up of the wiring and that but it works anyway Started up first time which was such a relief lol and now its just being run in for a few hundred miles before I map it just to make sure all is good. Have speedlines to go on at some stage and just need to decide on a colour for them. This is how it is currently and a crap vid of the turbo chatter which will get really addictive. The proper time lapse video can be started on now so that will come soon
Was over at rs tuning in Leeds over the weekend for Paul to tweak my mapping. Talk about ups and downs that journey, the 2am boat broke its engine on the way over and came back to dublin, so onto the 8.20 ferry which left at 9.20 and I flew from holyhead to leeds for a quick turnaround with paul and back to get the 8pm boat home… it was the boat that broke down that morning on me and decided to leave early which was sound of Stena!! They sorted me out on the next boat home at 2am for free, gave me some vouchers and put me in a suite so at least it wasn't an awful return. On to the car, buy the time I got to leeds the car had killed its thermostat and one of the injectors was playing up. Made the decision to stay stage 1 and ill go back with some 630cc injectors and a hybrid turbo for stage 2 at some stage over the next few months and that'll push nicely into the 300s. Bhp was somewhere close to 270 torque somewhere in the 280s but holds boost and torque for what feels like forever so a much nicer drive, and also nice to know it was built right by myself and running ok from a respected pro. Hadn't stopped driving apart from fuel and mapping, and even that was le mans style change and off I went again (forgot to lift my printout ). Had the go pro with me for some footage for the build time lapse and it caught this a few times on the way home Good times
You be surprised to hear not very much Daz, I bought the burnt out megane for a couple of hundred, sold all the parts unburnt like lights, wheels and bumpers and that paid for all my parts, rebuilt the engine myself. The only thing that has cost me so far has been the remap cost and the leather/alacantara recaro covers. Thats how you do things on a budget lol
Just a bit of fun with some of the build footage http://vimeo.com/89963286
Stephen, fair play mate that is hell of a job you have done there, love the video. You make it all look so easy. Nice one mate.
Cheers dude Been toying with changing the tailpipes recently, bought a set from ebay but with the k-tec system they weren't long enough to reach out to the diffuser. And as many have Ive been keeping an eye out for a 200 diffuser to come up and they don't hang around long at all! By fluke one came up on ebay yesterday morning and I happened to see it minutes into the auction, got it for a great price and just needed a small dent heated out and it pushed out great this morning so now its perfect. Happy days to ukmail 24hr who got it to me in less than a day, cracking service Before: After:
Great vid! As others said this looks really plug-and play but i bet this isn't the case lol Well done!!
Nice video! Love the project..the idea of a boosted R27 always plays around in my head..maybe one day
Quality build, love that time lapse vid! wish I had all the gear to do something like that! I know I would never have time though!
Great read, love the car, for me everything you've done to it is a credit to yourself, hard work & dedication pays off. R26r wheels??
