Spoke to mark about the fact my clutch needs replacing soon so what's everyone's experiences on which set up they went for?
Mark fitted my SMF and R26.R clutch kit and I loved it on my old car. Other than the light on the dash which can be mapped out it was a win win for me. Picks up quickly, lovely to drive, better engine breaking (slows quicker when you lift off throttle) and a cool noise when you start the car. Just my 2p's worth.
Tbf mate it's all down to cost. smf cost me an extra 250 compare to dmf as the light needed mapping out . Plus there's more chatter from the clutch with smf. I look back and think it wasn't worth it but I wasn't going for extra power so should have just gone dmf
I'll add that I was running circa 300bhp so wanted the updated version. Stock dmf is perfectly fine for lower power Chris. Depends which route your taking. The light on mine was very intermittent and took a few thousand miles before it came on and often turned off on ours own. French electrics lol
ive got a helix clutch and flywheel setup takes a while to get used to with it being so heavy but wouldn't change it now
Well my current set up was running 265bhp with 280ftlb I've now added a decat so I imagine torque has increased a fair bit and freed up a few more ponies. So I want something that can take a bit of abuse. Ive ruled the helix out due to cost and how heavy it will feel as my car is a daily after all.
im running 325ftlb of torque so was always nice to have the helix setup. ive just got used to it and don't really do many miles so its perfect for me
I think SMF and r26r clutch is the way to go then by the sounds of it. Anymore for anymore opinions wise?
Helix was the worst thing I done to my old 225 Cup. The clutch pedal was stupidly heavy and I can from a ph1 172 lol
I didn't like it when I drove it when Jacob had it. Go with what Mark advises, I did and didn't regret it.
I've got a helix setup and I drive it every day through Birmingham traffic. To begin with I thought I was going to need a new left leg and thought maybe I'd made a mistake getting it. but after a while I've got more used to it and after 1.5k it now even feels a bit lighter. It is either on or off though, requires a slightly different style of driving I would say. I wouldn't go back now as long as it doesn't go bang again
