A recent trip to Cardiff ended up with me gaining a Bus Lane Contravention ticket, £75. Having never been to Cardiff before or knowing my way around, following my sat nav after not having a clue on where i was going, i mistakenly drove into a bus lane which was the best part of 50 yards long. I gained nothing from driving into it, it was just a mistake whilst trying to sus out where my sat nav was taking me. Is there nothing these c**ts wont stoop to, to screw you over for some cash?
If this were me ; i'd calm down first as i can sense your frustration and write them a well worded letter explaining clearly it was your first time in the city, you were following a satnav which took you that route - sincerely apologise blah blah and see what they say. Likely, they'll let you off seeing as you're not from around the area
I am calm(ish) about it, its just an honest mistake which i cant beleive that they want to fine me for. I cycle to work every day, & the amount of people that are texting or busy yapping on a phone whilst driving is unreal. They have the potential to kill me, but bugger all happens to them.
Ouch! Funny that as I came home this evening to find a letter from Edinburgh council forwarded on to me by the van hire place saying I too had been driving in the bus lane. The thing is I used the van to help my sister move through to Glasgow. The letter has 2 photos of the van clearly showing the reg plus a copy of the rental agreement which has the reg of the van I actually had, totally different. I had a Custon high top with no branding and the van in the photo was a normal Custom covered in branding. I'm raging! Just need to take a deep breath before I call them first thing Monday morning but after a 12 hour night shift I might be a tad irritable. Not quite the same but a hassle none the less. Fingers crossed a well worded letter like suggested above will get you off.
