Hi, I have booked for Brands Hatch on 17th January and have a garage booked also if anyone is interested in sharing? I'm in an R26. Cheers
If you or anyone else books in later in the year give me a shout, I'll be doing it this year for sure, how's the seat height now your used to it ?
Brands is on my to do list for this year. 17th is slightly too early for me. Gonna wait for some better weather and get some new bits fitted.
Hi Steve, Seat height works a treat and was a GREAT mod for me. Just had the car mapped at K-Tec with a cold air induction kit and some handling mods and it's night and day quicker! Was at Brands Hatch 3 weeks ago and had Tom Chilton in the car for 30mins for some professional driving training.....excellent experience and now can getting the best from the car in terms of handling and balance.
Hi Sunnylunn, Do not know the number of the garage yet but you are welcome to come on down would like to hear more about owning the R26R! Just look out for the red R26 and say Hi! See you on the 17th, Cheers
I've just looked and see its on a Saturday, if it's good weather I may give the R a run out and see Martin at the same time
276 bhp and 300ft/lbs all coming in lower down the rev range and staying for longer. The Dyno at K-Tec is different from RS Tuning and they apparantly show different outputs with the K-Tec being more conservative. That's with the standard exhaust still fitted so should get some more gains after a sports cat and 3" exhaust. Just getting used to the power delivery at the moment which is very different to the standard set-up. For handling inner steering arm replaced, tracking, slight increase in the toe-in and four wheel alignment plus 20mm spacers to widen the track. Would be good to meet up and like you I have fingers crossed for good weather! Cheers
Yes, The car has a "wider" stance giving a more positive response to steering inputs. On a fast down hill (Paddock Hill Bend) any tendancy for lift-off over steer is also later to come in than on standard set-up giving more confidence when pushing on. The downside side is cost and a slight increased leverage on the hubs however as these are service items I think the benefits outweigh any disadvantage. The look of the car is slightly changes as the wheels now fill the wheel arches but this is just the cosmetic but positive.
Cheers for that. I was looking at 10mm spacers all round. Do you have a opinion on whether this is enough or not? I won't be adjusting the geometry.
For me there is not enough benefit fitting the 10mm spacers. The 20mm do give a measurable improvement on all around overall handling and the difference in cost is marginal. If you fit them then you should get the car tracked up by an expert afterwards and because of the spacers the geometry will normally be adjusted anyway during this process so you get the best out of the handling......that's what these cars are all about!! (and it saves on tyre wear).
Cool, if its just 4 wheel alinement and tracking happy days. I need it doing anyways with my next set of tyres. Might as well dove tail it together. Thanks for the advise!
Do you run on normal shocks or coil-overs with adjustable mounts? Why do you say you need to redo the tracking after you install the spacers? All the settings will remain the same with or without the spacers. And what exactly you consider as being good angles for the spacers? And what angles can you modify in our car anyway (except for toe)? When you install the spacers, you will increase the kingpin offset and you will have more torque steer than OEM? Do you feel this? Also, because of the increased track width, you should feel the suspension a little softer because you increase the rod ratio for the spring/shock. S.
i was gonna track #156 at brands on the 24th at brands 1st of 2015 but i will come down for a hi and meet some people on 17th if the weather not to bad
Normal shocks, have enquired about the coil-over option but the expense has put me off! I have the tracking done every time I make an alteration like new tyres, (even when they are half worn I get the car tracked up), inner steering arms etc and this included the spacers. I was advised that the car is better set up this way with a little more toe-in after the spacers were fitted and the handling is now definately improved .....the difference is night and day to me. I do have more torque steer but as a result of the re-map but not that I can notice from the install of the spacers. The suspension I feel is pretty tight with no noticable difference to the softness in day to day driving but down here in Dorset as the roads are so bad!! P
