Just a heads up but here are shots of the fronts from my car with the Federal 595-RS on and as you can see they are starting(?) to delaminate. The rear near side rear was also showing similar symptoms. The 4x tyre's were returned to Federal via my dealer and examined and a full refund given as the tyre's were found to be defective. I have been using Federal FZ-201 Medium for the rest of the season with no other issues so it was possibly just a bad batch.....but where are the others??? Keep an eye on the tyre's guys!! Safe driving....
AFAIK they used to do this when they were just introduced as well, especially in hot climates and with heavier cars (ie BMW M3's on trackdays in Texas etc)... Maybe they've turned out a bad batch again?
Interesting! Back in April running the 595-RS at Rockingham I had a complete blow out on the rear right throwing me at high speed towards the wall. It destroyed my Alloy as well grrrr. I'd posted it on here and it was deemed the tyre had delaminated
RS-R's have been known to split across the tread for years. My first set i had on a previous car down it about 6 years ago
Hi Paul I bought a set on your recommendation, if mine go the same way as yours i'll be sending them to you Just completed a day at Brands Hatch, although it wasn't a hot day it was fun, mine are holding up very well at the moment, the next ones i want to try are the AR-1's.
As has already been said, this was a known issue in the past. I was worried about it also and checked them all the time but never saw anything. Perhaps another dodgy batch. Surely Federal must be doing something about these issues ?!
I have seen similar in past on Clio's, Megane's, E36's etc. It's the reason I've never tried them even though I understand they're a great tyre (usually lol).
I've had two sets and both did the same although just had the crack going across the tyre, didn't have a big chunk missing like yours. I used them as drift tyres after and once they wear down the crack disappears. The biggest problem I had was high speed vibration. After a lot of £'s spent we realised the tyre's would go out of shape. This was only noticeable at very high speed (120+) so a lot of track cars wouldn't experience this. You get the same crack on a lot of cheaper tyres, Kumho Ku36's are the same. Apparently the crack appears where they've been glued together.
