AlexGSi2000's 225 Trophy

  1. Thought I would post up a quick project thread.
    Its going to be nothing in comparison compared to the other projects on here - so if your looking for custom builds - press the back button now!

    I bought the Trophy in September 2014 to replace my girlfriends MG ZR that she had owned for 5 years (don't start - we know about the headgaskets.etc :smiley:).

    Criteria was that the replacement to the ZR needed to be something a little special and different, fairly cheap to run whilst also fun and pretty quick - so that I could jump in and have a hoon whenever I feel.
    The list comprised of the likes of, 8L S3, CTR, 182.etc we decided on the Megane in the end, mostly because of the power potential from a re-map.

    After a few weeks of looking, we came across Trophy No 122 on Pistonheads - located 50 miles away, so we decided to go and take a look.
    We were met with a gleaming example on the drive, alloys recently refurbished.etc - took a good look round and went through the cars history, documents and receipts/invoices... by that point I was sold and left a deposit.
    Collected a few days later - so this is where the project begins.

    I consider myself abit meticulous when it comes to maintaining cars, so always find myself spending a little when I purchase a car.
    So far the jobs done on the car are;

    • Engine Oil & Filter Change (Fuchs Race Pro S)
    • Gearbox Oil - (Fuchs 75-80)
    • Coolant change
    • Plugs
    • New drivers door lock button
    • Re-map (evochips)
    • Brake Pads
    • Alpine CDE-183 & stealth sub.

    Shortly after having the remap done - as I pretty much expected, the clutch started slipping at peak torque (I have since barred myself from driving the car) - I am going to be swapping this over during the Christmas period along with a few other items;
    • Suspension top mounts & bearings
    • Wishbones
    • Tie-Rods (inner & outer)
    • Injector clean (slight miss-fire on idle)

    That's pretty much it for the time being - not sure what kind of work I will be doing in the future, mainly keeping the thing in good condition - I have been thinking about of Cooksport springs with fresh shocks and have found myself looking on ebay for the odd Milltek.etc - who knows.

    Also, a quick show-off of my regular money-pit;

  2. I love Trophys.

    I also had a money pit A4. Would of kept it longer but the noisey diesel engine soon got on my nerves.
    When I got it.

    When I sold it.

  3. Pretty certain I have seen your A4 on audi-sport James?

  4. I spent a bloody fortune on it.

    Although I omly paid £80 for these Recaros. Rare as rocking horse poo back in 2007.

    Full miltek exhaust.

    I sold it to a lad from Ireland. Last time I saw it on there it was covered in camouflage for a photo shoot.

  5. Carried out the clutch change on boxing day with a good friend - which has sorted out the clutch slip.

    There was slight play in the DMF - thought I was going to need to buy a new onebut was found to be within tolerance (19 degrees).

    Needless to say, its sorted out the clutch slip. We found the friction disc worn, forks bent on the pressure plate and the slave cylinder bearing had seen better days.
    Pedal feel has become alot better too.

    Thankfully it was all pretty well kept under there - not a lot of rust and all bolts/nuts came out with ease.

    Only hiccup was the fact I fitted the new friction disc the wrong way round - thankfully my mate spotted this before the box went back on!

  6. What slave cylinder did you fit?

  7. I fitted the LUK one that came with the kit - I have read on here about aftermarket slaves being bad, but LUK is a reputable brand + the part has been recently revised I believe (metal fluid pipe instead of plastic).

  8. Ive changed 3 in less than a year on my diesel.
    It was the seal (O ring) that leaked every time but if they have revised the pipe hopefully it's fixed this problem.

  9. Wow, thats not good. Did the slave cylinders that failed have the plastic link pipe that goes inside the bellhousing?
    The one I have has a metal link pipe with o-rings only on the outside of the box where it links to the line. Looks like this;

  10. Mine had the plastic pipe.

    The O ring is where the two pins are that join the pipe to the body in the picture. Its a pain cos it means taking the gearbox off every time.

    Ive fitted the last one with a slightly bigger O ring than what was fitted and swapped the two pins for nuts and bolts and its been fine so far.
