Gents, Recently received my Airtec FMIC, intend to fit it this weekend. Now it does come with instructions, however it doesn't mention where the supplied bolts are to be used? Anyone fitted one themselves? Is there any drilling involved? Cheers.
No drilling, you might want to trim some of the old ducting that sat on top of the old IC though but that's not mentioned in the instructions.
Did you fit this? I am considering one at some point, wondering what fitting as a job is like? @Bowen
Yeah wasn't easy. Few bolts along the bottom, and some torx on the top. Then there's a bolt and a torx attaching the wing to the bumper, bolts were OK, torx were a bitch. The original intercooler comes off ok, the driver side clip (boost hose to FMIC) is part metal part plastic, how it holds boost is a miracle?! Once it is off its impossible to get back on, although now it is, it's holding boost fine. I've fitted intercooler a before to different cars and this wast the most difficult. No drilling which is good.
Mine was a shit to get on too, luckily I test drove it without the bumper back on and gave it a 'pressure test' before completely reassembling it and it blew off a pipe. I had to call a m8 round just to hold up one end of the IC to get it on properly. Not an easy one man job tbh. I got a black one too and it's looking a bit rough now without doing that many miles. I don't like the look of a silver intercooler because of the JDM yo look, but at the same time I wish it was a bit harder wearing.
My passenger side popped off when i took it a test drive, PITA as i had put everything back on but luckily i could get to it just about through the arch liner.
I full assembled mine before test driving it, thankfully it's held. The driver side boost hose clip is really odd and just doesn't seem that well designed, why not have it the same as the passenger side. Not an easy one man job as Jamie says.
