250...slight knocking on off side

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by punkrock76, Jun 12, 2014.

  1. Hi

Wonder if anyone can help...got a slight knocking from off side front wheel at low speed (sub 5 mph). Any ideas ? Don't get any wheel shake, pulling to left. / right or anything. In fact drives just normal.

    Thanx

  2. Worn ball joint, or something else worn around that area on the hub. Common problem due to the stiff setup on shit uk roads. Renault only replace the hub, they dont do replacement ball joints etc, but there are specialists out there that do, mark black on here and arron autos also does them

  3. Cheers

  4. I had the same problem got the two hubs replaced under warranty it was still there so they
have changed the engine mounts they said they were a bit weak and still not gone so now they are doing the top
    mounts

Lower ball joints, You can get them off eBay now and get them done yourself so they are even cheaper to fix

  6. I just had similar sorted and it was worn offside strut mount. All warranty stuff matey.

  7. Thanx for all replies but not sure I can get done under warranty even tho it doesn't run out until September as it has been remapped , Eibach springs , performance exhaust plus cat etc.

  8. It will be the bottom arms !

  9. I've got a really bad knocking on the drivers side and am getting fed up of replacing parts! So far I've replaced the ball joint (myself), the struts for coilovers, the engine/gearbox mount and now I'm looking to replace the top engine mount. Fed up of replacing parts to try and cure this knocking! It still sounds and feels like a suspension issue. Doesn't feel like bottom arm/ball joint though, which is why I'm probably still going to go for the engine mount. POS car ...

  10. Had two independents look at this. Both reckon it's ds2500 pads moving slightly. Must admit it does seem to appear after braking.....

  11. Not sure how similar the R26 and 250 are but I have a similar knocking when turning and applying some acceleration. Was told to replace the track rods, didn't solve it. Now I'm told the drive shaft....

  12. Hi all,
    Any findings regarding this issue?
Mine got a knocking and rattling noise when moving slowly from a stop. On the driver side... It disappeared at higher speed though.

Is it similar to any of your issue here?

  13. Mine going on to dealer for assessment tomorrow. Will let u know outcome.

  14. Turns out to be ds2500 pads rattling....had it to a previous dealer and they thought the same. Apparently the movement is to allow for expansion under track usecetc

  15. I have the exact same problem as you do. I was considering replacing the balljoints, but I will surely check if my pads (EBC Yellowstuff with custom-made brake pins) are the ones causing it. It might very well be the case as it started after fitting my new brake pins.

  16. Wouldn't be surprised. It sounds exactly like a ball joint has gone with the sound the knocking makes but have had it to two independents who checked it all over....one couldn't find anything at all, the second diagnosed the pads being 'too small'. I then took it to Renault dealer and they said that there is no issue except that the pads are moving in the caliper. I contacted the original company who fit the pads and they said ' yeah they do move and knock...they're supposed to as they expand under heavy use and therefore do not come with clips etc to stop their movement..' Would have been nice if they had informed me of that at the time !!!!!! They were also the first independent that I took it to for assessment and they couldn't find anything wrong !!!

  17. I'm not mentioning any names on who it was either before anyone asks...

  18. So you are saying the movement is only on 1 side, which is off side?

  19. Tbh it could be both. That's the impression I got but can't hear near side as off side is loud anyway. Lol

  20. Okay so changed pads to OEM's and still got knocking. A bit more info....

When brake pedal is pressed (at low speed) there is a 'creaking noise' from drivers side front at low speed and when stopped (at junction for example) and then move forward slowly can hear creaking / knocking sound. Caliper or suspension anyone ? Really gettin on my tits now.....

  21. Finally got this sorted.....off side front drive shaft bearing.

  22. Hi
Which one is the drive shaft bearing? Is it the wheel bearing?

  23. Probably the one in the support bracket for the driveshaft

  24. Correct.

  25. The one on my old 197 shat its cover and flick grease under side of the car. It wasnt the cause of my knocking thou.

  26. I'm also experiencing EXACTLY this in a Meg II . . . so far I have replaced both driveshafts and anti-roll bar links, front dics/pads (all OEM), drivers side whole hub (reconditioned), passenger side track rod end.

The last garage I took it to suggested I changed the drivers track rod end and both inner arms, but they couldn't diagnose the problem suggested it might be the rack. I've contacted Reno-tec a Renault specialist in the Essex area . . .

    I've also been reading through other posts this week and I plan to refresh my lower arms/wishbones with parts discussed in this thread;
    http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread....ension-and-steering-components-*links-inside*

    Another interesting thread talks about LSD possibly being the culprit;
    http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread.php?4946-Suspension-knock-under-full-lock

I wasn't aware Meg II Cup's had LSD?!

  27. I went through everything on my 250. I replaced the ARB drop links, the strut top mounts, the lower hub ball joints and in the end the knocking was being caused by a knackered anti-rotation link!

People need to check these on the 250's now as they are getting to the sort of age/mileage where these parts wear out. They aren't cheap either ...

  28. If anyone is having this issue I have been trying to resolve this for over a year now and I believe I’ve found a fix.

I have done like many others and changed lower swivel joints, drop links, springs, I even changed the offside drive shaft with no success in curing the noise.

Eventually got it diagnosed as the front pads clanking in the right hand caliper. The pads for some reason were quite loose in the caliper, more than you would expect. They would normally be held tighter by a layer of corrosion. The fix was to replace the anti rattle shims with new ones (Brembo recommend they are not re-used) and fit additional anti squeal shims to hold the pads in a bit tighter. Also checked the pistons were not seized in the caliper.

I hope this helps as it is worth checking out before you go replacing costly parts as I did that didn’t solve the issue.

  29. fuck really like me and my car
I'm already tired of changing parts to new ones, but I still couldn't find a knock
it also gives a knock on the steering wheel when I run into a curb or run over the rails or go off the curb with my right wheel
