235/40/18 vs 245/40/18 - which is better for 9j?

  1. Hi all, find myself in the position of looking into tyres for some new wheels. I was wondering if people can share experiences and preferences? I’ve heard you don’t need more than 235/40 but 245/40 looks more chunky.

    Any help is appreciated!

    245 40 or even 255/35

Could even get a 265/35 on if you wanted, I ran 255 on my 9J OZs

  3. Is there a big difference between the two?

i run 255's on 8.5j with no problems

  5. Can't see you running a 255 tyre on a 9J rim on the rear without serious arch modifications

Plenty of space to do so [emoji2369]

Even run some current spec BTCC slicks all round if you wanted

  7. What offset 9J wheel did u run at the rear with a 255 tyre and how much camber

  8. I went with 235/40R18 on my 9J ET55, mainly because I was worried about rubbing - I'm also not running any negative camber. They do end up looking a bit stretched, but not excessively, so I kept them on.

    ET45, ET55 and ET50. ET40 was too tight

Camber varied from stock to over - 2 degrees
