225 Turbo

  1. Hi All - disaster tonight, preliminary investigation is telling me that i need a new turbo, car is chucking smoke out of the back and the turbo is making an absolute racket.

Not sure yet it if can be rebuilt or i'm going to need a new one so just putting some feelers out here - does anyone have a spare turbo lying around?

    pretty devastated is an understatement.

  2. Ah bad news man! I had exactly the same last year! Will you be fitting it yourself?

  3. yeah, took the knackered one out today, it's got a tonne of play in the shaft to the point where the turbine wheel on the hot side has munched itself around the casting and bent a lot of the fins. I'm suspecting oil or coolant starvation is the underlying cause so need to do some more investigation yet, got a new turbo on the way though, arrives tomorrow, expensive month!

Engine bay currently looks like this; snapped two of the studs getting the old turbo out, luckily the two that snapped are the ones that go into the turbo, not the one that goes into the manifold.

I'll get a video of the play in the shaft tomorrow when it's light

  4. That's what happened to mine when the turbo shit itself. The hot side jammed into the casting at high speed and the hole shaft snapped. When I check it for play the cold side compressor wheel just came out in my hands

  6. Nice!! How much did that set you back?

  7. Too much, £570 including VAT.. it's fitted now and sounds miles better than the old one did before it died. went for a new one because i'll be getting her remapped soon and running higher boost - didnt want to risk another unknown turbo.

  8. Didn't you buy a 250 turbo from the start?

  9. I have one for 120 quid and its spot on!

  10. 250 turbo do you mean? For sale?
