Anyone looked into this before? Does the 225 decat fit or is it going to be a case of gutting existing cat?
Couldn't find a decat, petrol one doesn't fit. Have bought a spare cat which I plan to gut. Should be arriving soon. Plan at the moment is to fit an EGR bypass and a DPF delete when I can find one cheap. At the same time, I'm on the lookout for a new turbo - when I find one I'll get it fitted (I think that one is a bit beyond me), fitting the gutted cat will be easy at the same time, then get a remap.
If you get the DPF, cut open and empty out the contents and get someone to weld it back up, as long as it looks like a DPF that is all that's required, (so i have been told), my Espace has gone through 5 mot's like that. I don't think you will be able to delete the EGR valve, it's an integral part of the injection system. On my research i found that a turbo from a Renault Espace 2.0 DCi 175, it is the same engine but not the same turbo.
You don't need to cut open the 175 dpf, the hole at one end is more than big enough to remove the internals though. Mine's been done a good few years now, more than worth doing.
Bashing the internals will make a hollow sounds compared with straight pipe. It's a thing of taste from here. EGR can be only mapped out, no need for extra hardware. Or you can install that blanking plate. I would keep the EGR kit on the engine as it is extremely easy to spot is not there in case of a MOT (easier than the DPF). I have a stock 175 turbocharger. Removed from my engine when I installed the hybrid. Is not new but it can be a good base for a hybrid. S.
I plan on getting the EGR mapped out eventually but for the time being will be blanked. Would you be able to take any pictures of the turbo? It would be good to have some reference pictures so I can make sure what I'm looking for really is a straight swap.
I can help you with anything regarding turbochargers on 175. Just let me know what is the end goal, because it may happen there is a better turbo in the wild to achieve your plan. I would say that even if I'm not running a 175 base turbocharger right, my spec is stiff 100% plug and play and can be return to stock at anytime. Also you need a very trained eye to spot it. S.
...just one thing: if you blank the EGR on a stock ECU, the error will inhibit DPF purging. This can be read in a different way: - blanking EGR with a functional DPF installed is a recipe for DPF failure S.
I was looking for either a GTA1749LV or a GTA1752LV. Interesting - I knew the DPF and EGR operation were linked, but I'd seen people use an EGR bypass on these cars before without mentioning any specific problems?
I would go for GTA1752LV. It is the 52mm comp wheel which will give you a little more headroom. Also ECU boost control will still cope with the change without too much fuss. You can also get a turbocharger without the 'L' which means it doesn't have the liquid cooling of the CHRA. In this case you can loop the coolant hose going to the turbo and make sure you don't turn off the engine after a high-speed run. My current turbo lacks the 'L' I discovered the fact that EGR inhibits the DPF looking into the calibration. So I'm sure this is the way it happens and I don't really trust anyone else on this. Maybe I should say I bought my car tuned by K-Tec and awful things were done there. I'm a fan of correct DPF-off method, the one used in the OEM field and not the Swiftech non-sense everyone uses. S.
Thankyou - could I ask for you to expand on the Swiftech vs OEM DPF removal stuff please? Are you suggesting that I could use the turbo without a remap (obviously this would be needed long term) without any significant adverse effects? Looks like the EGR bypass is staying on the shelf for a while... It's good to have some solid information - thanks again.
Wrong and easy way for DPF-off is to let the car run in limp-mode maps and tune then like the normal running maps. Remove all the limitations and safety nets to run there. Delete check engine from the dashboard. Not my cup of tee, seems more K-tec cup. Correct and hard way to do it is to tell the ECU it has no DPF installed. Never ever had one. All the ECUs will have a switch that allows you to do this. How do I know? No engine has DPF during development phase and they all run standard ECUs, so always there is a proper way. Problem is to find it. This and the fact I work with OEM ECUs and calibration dept on a daily basis. Yes, you can run GTA1752 on stock ECU without too much issues. You will have a small boost overshoot-undeshoot around 1500-1600rpm. You can even drive around it with a little bit of feeling. S.
I originally had a ktec dpf delete pipe before the mot regulations changed. previous owner paid over £700 to have it fitted and then mapped by rs tuning. absolute madness price. When the regulations changed I bought a dpf and gutted it and also the cat. zero change in sound this was mated up to a petrol miltek system. Deleting the egr system is pointless. all it needs is a clean every 100k. removing will slow the warming up of the engine. I had a laguna 180 turbo fitted the last dyno run was 222bhp and 380ftlbs. I wouldn't bother pushing the gearbox any further than that. My advice would be gut the dpf and get it mapped leave it at 205-210bhp and enjoy. I found that my dci was great for a short blast more prolonged heavy use it threw up the check injection light(still drove fine). they don't like to be hammered like the petrols do.
I will have to slightly disagree with you there, i have an Espace 2.0 dci, the same engine as the Megane dci, had the dpf emptied out and remapped nearly 5 years ago now, it has been fab, yes the check engine light is on and it has been that way for the 5 years, mine gets hammered every day, when i take it to be serviced there 2 post ramp won't lift it, i carry that much stuff in it. I get about 22-25 mpg around town and on a run low 30's, front tyres last about 6k miles, so you can see how hard i drive it,ohh and it's done 160k miles. I have a Dci megane as well but it's a 5 door and in very good condition but it's to good to be used as a track car, so for the moment i am sticking with the 225 but you never know
Hello, Never heard of them or seen any of they're work. I can't really recomend anyone. I had to do the remap by myself to be 100% happy and I'm still not there yet. There are still things to sort out to have that sweet OEM running I'm after. I hope I will find some free time and good weather to do the next step into this. Btw, what errors do you guys get with the DPF off? It sound as a wacky job to get DTCs. The Espace with DPF-off and light on the dashboard sounds very familiar to me for the previous file. Currently i don't get any DTCs even on the track days or baby runs but more important all the safe nets are still working. If I really get a genuine error, the power is reduced and the lights goes on. I would bet not lot of remaps still have a functional limp mode. S.
Unicorn: https://www.facebook.com/UnicornMotorDevelopments/ Someone on here gutted the DPF over 5000 miles ago and hasn't had any errors or issues to date without a remap RS 175 Lux
I can't believe this. If DPF goes below threshold and there is no DTC and limp-mode and light on the dashboard you (Renault) break the legislation. This goes even harder than the whole Dieselgate in VW. So I definitely can't believe this. On the other hand it took me some time to find the codes and the reconfigurations in the ECU, so I would definitely found out if it was the case. S. Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
Just what someone has told me. They were buying a used K-tec pipe but ended up just hitting the DPF. Didn't do anything else. No issues or EML/CEL in c5k miles RS 175 Lux
