Issues with the rear brake

  1. Hello everyone,

trackday at spa francorchamps ended very early sadly after 20 laps due to issues with my rear brakes.

the outer brake pad was completely gone after 20 laps. so they were on track sticking apparantly. on the road or when installing everything went normal. the piston side brake pad was fine.

there is play in the gliding pins on both sides on the rear, and there is a difference in the pins in thickness and design.

i bought refreshment kits / seals / pistons / pins, and hope this will solve the issue.

the strange part is that it only sticks on hard braking i guess, so it seems to me that the only option would be the pins, as the piston side is fine.

any tips ? and is the play on the pins normal? i assume not but the other side also has play and no issues. the one pin is round, and the other has flat sides to them ( this is normal it seems through my searching on the internet ). i cant understand why you would want play / jutter im the caliper.

could it also be my handbrake perhaps? i dont think so as once again the piston side is good

    thanks

  2. just one question, did you turn traction control off when on track?

I was at Donny once and forgot to turn traction off and the rears were smoked in that session. TC will make the brakes kick in constantly so its like doing 20 laps with them on all the time.

    its jut a thought.

  3. i did drive a few laps with tc on (it was wet). and im aware of this. but 3 brake pads at 50% and 1 at 0%, im sure thats not my problem, but thank you for the input

  4. I had some similar play on both my rear calipers so changed them out a couple of weeks ago with new pins etc.
Also prior to change I had poor pad/rotor contact under braking (not locking) on track days - could see rings on the rotor with poor contact, and little pad material skin build up on parts of the rotor. I put it down to poor set of DS2500 pads.

Once I changed the pins, the skin buildup on rotor was brilliant - nice and even across the full rotor width.

So maybe yours has gone the next level of wear compared to mine, and starting to stick.

  5. thank you, will find out when i change them, weird thing is the pins move super freely, so i dont understand the sticking part.

does anyone have a guide for rebuilding the rear calipers? fronts are easy but the rear im not sure how it works with the mechanism. can you just push out the piston? i have new piston and seals ready
