275 trophy vs cup s - newbie

Discussion in 'Megane Discussion' started by ShaneBe, Jul 8, 2020.

  1. Hi all im the newbie around here and currently looking at a rs 275 megane.

Previously coming from Hondas (k20 ek9). I'm on the hunt for a megane.

As ill be looking for a 275 trophy with akra, ohlins and Recaro, what is the difference between this and the cup s?

    Thanks in advance!!

  2. Alcantara, stripes, better resale £

  3. For the cup s? Ignore that.. you mean the trophy.

So there is no other differences?

  4. both have options, trophy a bit more exclusive I suppose. I love the interior of mine and wanted the alcantara so I would have never considered a cup S but it depends what floats ya boat.

  5. Thanks both.

I've been pretty set on the trophy but kept seeing the cup s pop up and wanted to see the differences!

Now for the hunt to find a nice 275 trophy

  7. I think the trophy came with more as std than the Cup-S. So a lot of Cup-S look cheaper. But the big spec ones are actually a little more as they are newer car.

Its all about the options on either car. Both can be specced the same depending how deep the original owners pockets are. Remember a top specification car would list close to £35k.

Unless you specifically like the half leather on the Trophy vs full leather on Cup-S Recaro option.

Other up sides on Cup-S is newer (less winters corroding ohlins) & potentially under warranty. Mine has Service plan to Sept 20/and warranty manufacturers to Sept 20& extended Renault to Sept 21.

You can have flame Red in Cup-S or Stripes on Trophy.

As for exclusivity the trophy has a plate saying no xxxx ( sold in 20 countries so number looks big). But they only sold around 100 trophys in UK and around 100 Cup-S (UK Specific). So they are comparable. And both super rare compared to Clio Trophy.

Difference ECU as CUP-S EU6 compliant or something like that. And Climate vs A/C I think.

I would buy based on what you can find and get there quick. As full Spec Trophy + Cup-S probably only 40-50 cars in the UK.

  8. Sure you wouldn't be disappointed with a fully spec'd Cup-S. Probably not a great deal to choose from so probably best looking for both and just see what's available price, mileage and condition wise. Good luck mate.

  9. You just missed a coupld of high spec flame red ones.

Ktec just sold one was up for £16995. And our very own rs Jamie on forum just sold his privately for around the £16k mark. I cannot see anything else similar.

  10. There is a Yellow Trophy on Autotrader, unfortunately has budget tyres which would worry me!

  11. cheers for the info guys.

I'm pretty set on a yellow or white trophy, I'm in no rush to buy so just waiting for the perfect one to come up with the extras im wanting

  14. For the 275 Megane there was the Trophy first which was a limited run, followed by the Cup-S and Nav. Trophy had all the bells and whistles. Cup-S with no options was a very basic car designed to allow people to get a Meg with the cup chassis for cheap, but you could also spec it all the way up to Trophy levels so it was a highly configurable model. That's why some Cup-S have basic a/c, no cruise, no auto lights and wipers, no parking sensors, no nav, whilst others have it all. The Nav had all the creature comforts standard but the cup chassis was an option, and you couldn't get the akra or ohlins on the Nav.

Your choice but personally I wouldn't worry about the super rare options too much. The Akrapovic is not really necessary since a 40 quid mid box chop will do the same job on the standard exhaust. Ohlins are great new but apparently corrode up quite quickly and need servicing after 40000km, so become a big problem on a used car. Plus the standard cup setup is great already and there's a big selection of aftermarket suspension options available should you be wanting more. Recaros look amazing (have them in mine) but they actually don't hold you very well. If you were never going to carry anyone in the back then you could swap the standard seats out for Pole Position seats which are superior, but for everyday usage I reckon the standard seats with the leather option are the ones to go for since they are heated.

I've driven and been driven in a few hot hatches. Civic type-r, m140i, seat cupras, but nothing drives like these do. The way these Megs fling themselves around corners is incredible, and it would be a shame if you missed out on one because you found one without one of those rare options. At the end of the day, 250, 265, 275, doesn't matter. As long as you buy one which has been enthusiast owned and properly cared for you'll be buying one of the best hot hatches ever made.

  15. Hit the nail on the head with the advice there!

Just a heads up that the Akra was an option on the Nav, as mine is specced with it from factory.

Do people see the Cup-S as more desirable than the Nav? I never really see any Nav for sale compared to the Cup-S. Does anybody have any idea which they sold most of ?

When I was looking for mine I couldn’t decide between the Cup-S and Nav, but I decided that unless you’re looking for a dedicated track car (which I wasn’t) and not bothered about options, the Nav was more desirable to me, all creature comforts with the dual zone climate, Nav etc but was lucky that mine had the good bits from the Cup-S specced, Akra, Cup Chassis, Recaro’s, RS Monitor etc.

Only thing missing is the Ohlins which after hearing the corrosion issues I wasn’t too fussed and could happily fit other coilovers if wanted.

  16. Same as me Matt when i got mine. Mine's a daily so wanted the Nav with the cup chassis as i wanted all the creature comforts plus the best possible driving experience. Ended up finding a specced out Cup-S which has everything apart from the Ohlins and Akra. Only thing i wish i had was heated seats in the winter, but the dual zone climate heats up very quickly so it's not a big deal at all.

  17. I take it the nav with the cup chassis also has the lsd?

You pays your money and makes your choice. I always try to get the top model of any car. Cannot go to R as need rear seats. So I bought a car which to me is an R with rear seats and 120kg more weight.

I always feel a sense of frustration if I don't. But ultimately I am not that good a driver and dont do track work so lesser model probably better for my needs. If I was doing track work I would buy lowest spec car and replace the seats and dampers with truck stuff. I guess that was ethics if the zero spec Cup-S. Why make you pay to much for stuff you will remove.

I had a p1 and a normal impreza turbo would havd suited me better. Had a 328 sport but always wanted M3. Etc etc.

The clio trophy is prime example a cup pack 182 is as good a car for most of us. But people want to pay premium fir the trophy and are willing to accept the suspension refurb hassle.

  18. Yes as far as i know the cup pack is the same across all the Megs (250, 265 and 275). Includes the diff, stiffer roll bars, springs, shocks, and wider tyres.

  19. I only can highlight this. An incredible car, and Í swore never to buy a FWD car ever as long as I live. Then I drove the Meg first time and nothing was as before…..the accuracy how you can fly thru corners along the limit is fantastic, and I never had one single situation when i wasn´t able to manage it, G-force displays 1,4 g... Even the Meg 4 is not as the Mk3....at least my opinion
