New F1 Megane Owner! #400

  1. Afternoon all,

    Just joined the forum!

Always been a Renault fanboy, owned a few of them over the last few years. I did have this
    [IMG]

Which was a 1.6VVT, nice car, fun to drive, lacking in power.

    I then went on to this;

Very very fun to drive, enjoyed this car quite a bit but I ended up going over to the dark side and bought an EP3 Type-R! Cut above the 182 if you ask me, however there were quite a few modifications for the type-r, exchaust, cams & map, the usual! Can't find any pics of it currently, but it was silver with black wheels lol

So back in January I bought an orange Megane 225, I had nothing but problems with it. The drivers window regulator failed 3 times in 3 weeks, radiator blew a hole in it, top mount replaced, spring replaced, cv joint, track rod end etc.. etc... etc... It spent more time back at the garage I bought it from being repaired than actually being driven. Another thing that irritated me was the traction control, you could turn it off and then it comes back on at 60km/h? That's no good in the twisties. Just a catback system on this one, went okay. Decided to sell up!

Now here I am, I've just bought a Megane F1 (Number 400). It's done 68,000 miles with Full service history. Cambelt, waterpump & Dephaser all replaced 6k miles ago.

It's got a full Miltek system with sports cat, pipercross enclosed panel filter, forge recirc valve, and possibly mapped. The reason I say it's possibly mapped is because when stationary the fan comes on, even from cold, but when moving it goes off. I can only assume someone has mapped it to do this and it does feel rather nippy.

Now I know I'm 27 but I do enjoy a little play now and again, It's had no problems against Type-R's, VXR's, I even sat with a MK3 Focus RS until the end of 4th. Funnily enough, the one car I did struggle against was an Integra Type-R DC2 running 227bhp (cams, map &exhaust) I pulled about a car length and it literally just sat with me.

I'm all booked up now for Castle Combe on the 15th June, open pit and see how she performs. Literally just serviced yesterday, oil, filters, plugs & coil pack.

Need to get to RSTuning as well to see what power it makes, I'm hoping it isn't mapped in a way because it'll be a right pocket rocket with a map! Next thing for me is a Forge front mount and a decat (friendly MOT tester) and then another map, hoping to see 280bhp with those mods.

The only thing I've really done myself since owning is give it a clean and converted the stereo to DAB. Fits in nicely and will get some pics.

    Here she is!

    Thanks for reading.

  2. Glad you're back from the dark side mate! I have a hatred for Type-R's (can't really quantify why.. they just always have tried to race me and lost ) Looks like a tidy example though, enjoy!

Welcome back. The R26 is epic!

  4. Yeah, I will say it gets a lot of attention off other cars. Everybody seems to want to race it, you're bang on about Type-R's as well, it's like "Oooooh look a turbo, lets see how VTEC performs" and thanks! I'll get some more pics when I get the chance.

Cheers! I must say I've had more enjoyment in this car in the 2 weeks of owning it, than any other car I've ever owned.

  5. Welcome

  6. Welcome Matt - nice introductory post

  7. Thanks!

Thank you, I guess the only thing I missed off is my mothers maiden name lol.

    Too right! I love mine.

  9. What do people think? Yes or no?

  10. Defiantly no

  11. lol, come on, you know the answer

Haha no it doesn't take that long to load lol.

  13. So I've had the car a few weeks now and every time I get in it, still makes me smile!

I was having an issue however, I can't seem to get anything above 22mpg! No matter how it's driven, on the motorway obviously it's good at about 65, but the turbo kicks in at 1500rpm!! Is that normal?

So me and my mate had a good look over and it's got bigger injectors as well, i can only assume this is what is causing such a massive fuel use.

Haven't had it on the rollers yet, so unsure on power but do you think a front mount intercooler and a decat would be worth it or will it just make the MPG silly horrendous? Obviously I'll have it mapped again after, but the turbo kicking in at 1500 really does seem quite low.

That is normal. I average 26mpg using urban driving. Cruise control helps bump it up a bit.

  15. 22 is a bit low. Should get to 30 really on a steady drive.

Having said that, if it has uprated injectors then you may find it's already been mapped and is running more power than standard. It's a typical upgrade on these as the stock injectors are nearly at max flow anyway. This could explain the fuel usage.

  16. nice car, I have had my r26 about a month and still love it. its just so nice to drive either crusing on the motorway or hard on the back roads.

mpg wise i get 30-35 easily and thats driven fairly hard most of the time, even last week when I got it staged 1 at RS i drove hard all week to test it out and still got 30mpg, 22 does seem very low.

  17. No way I get 30-35 if driven hard, wow you got a peach there nune, I can get 28-30 on the drive to work all motorway Newport-Bristol and that aint with the computer readout but with petrol used out the tank, if I so much as drive it hard I am instantly down to 24. as said these aint off the compter but b how much petrol ive used once filled up.

  18. Yeah I can't quite get my head round it, the modifications are;

Full Miltek system with sports cat
    Pipercross enclosed panel filter
    Bigger injectors
    Forge recirc valve
    Possible remap

But I would have thought the map would increase the MPG in urban use? I always found that.. Guess I'm wrong lol

The only reason I'm concerned is because I was going to get an Evo 6 GSR which is 440bhp standard and I avoided it because of the fuel, but with the fuel the way it is on this at the moment, am I regretting that decision? :worried:

  19. My RS tuning map has the turbo kicking in at 2,500rpm, could well be regarding the map it has on it - speak to rs tuning, I doubt the de cat and IC would cause any more consumption.

I'm the same as midnight, calc mpg using actual fuel in; 30-32 if I drive at 68-76mph indicated; 22-24 when giving it some beans, usually averages out at 26 or so now combined. (Remap, IC, air filter, exhaust, 75,000 miles)

  20. The best I've managed is 37mpg amd the worst 24 mpg. I'm very happy with that. My Audi is 23mpg at best ! 7mpg at worst !

  21. I had 38 once! I was so surprised I took a picture! I normally get about 22-24 round town with stopping and starting with a pretty much standard set up!

Does the Audi munch through oil faster?

  23. Yep have to top the oil up at least once a month.

It was on watchdog last night. Apparently it's a piston ring problem.

  25. They must of been on about the newer Audis ? My rs4 is 14 years old with 177,000 on the clock

Yea it's the 2.0TFSI model. I expect an RS4 to go through it quickly either way!

Feel free to post a pic

  28. That's a nice car! I love them, so quick and well built!

I forgot all about the Renault Rattle, but it's there lol, did anybody go to FCS? I was going to go but I'm going USC and Traxx and couldn't really afford all 3 and fuel.

  31. So today I decided was the day to take the Megane for a power run - Really nice guys and I've used them before at their old place in Cradley Heath. If anyone is interested the address is; Hi-Tech Motorsport, Unit D1, Hoo Farm Industrial Estate, DY11 7RA and it's £25 + VAT for a power run. Bargain!

Anyways, from my previous post I assumed the car had been mapped, now I am not so sure!

It made 246bhp ATF and 225 ft-lb, from what I can see the car has a sports cat, recirc valve, pipercross filter & miltek system, the remap I wasn't so sure about, what do you guys think? Power run done on Tesco Momentum fuel.
