Does anyone in the North West actually know how to paint a bumper?

Trust me it's far worse than the pictures show...

3 times I've had this bumper done for various issues, the paint must be an inch thick by now!

Originally I asked for the wings and bonnet to be blended but I'm glad they ignored me now or I'd be trying to correct even more - In the dark it actually looks pretty clo... actually even in the dark it's the wrong colour...

I've completely fell out with it at the moment until it's fixed, the annoying thing is the rest of the car is now pretty much perfect paint wise.

    Anyone any recommendations?

  2. Brian Leightons near howden. It's not the north west but it will be 100% perfect first time and its 1 mile off the M62.

    Sounds promising!

The thing that obviously worries me now is that was the kind of recommendation I got from the place that did this! I think I'm naturally going to be a little apprehensive next time round..

  4. that colour can be a bit hit and miss mate but its no excuse that looks miles off

    I know! :worried:

I wouldn't actually buy a car the colour the front bumper is, it's just meh

  6. They are the ones that did the .R spoiler group buy. Lots commented on just how good the finish and service was. Also look on renaultsport forum and Clio 197 they get lots of excellent feedback.

I've used them lots if times on Albi, glacia white and liquid yellow version one and two. All faultless all first time.

Carl has a 250 from the bodyshop, the parts manager has a 200 an one of the techs has a R27.

Ring them and ask for Carl Smith in the body shop or PM Carl on here his user name is smithandroper

This is why i dont want my front one done, not seen a decent LY match in the flesh.

Spoilers are easier to match i guess, its big panels you really notice it on.

  9. Yep with some very picky customers to boot. they are full Ixel scheme bodyshop and even do aluminium EG. Land rover etc.

Brian Leightons have done several areas on my 200 which is the same Version one of liquid yellow as the Mk2 meg and done my bumper, spoiler and rails on my 265 trophy and its all perfect.

That's what I mean, no car is ever perfect but I've never had one where the front bumper looks like an ebay special!

  13. Are you being serious about spray station??? i left my car with him once to have the bumper done and he managed to put more overspray on the car than the area he actually painted!

  14. Dont worry mate we will have a look tomorow and get it sorted. Just pop in to our Landrover/bodyshop reception and ask for me.

  15. Sorry to butt into the thread but do you guys do smart repairs on small areas of damage? I've managed to scuff the bottom corner of the rear bumper/wheelarch...

  16. That sounds nothing like the spraystation I no. Iv never heard anyone complain about anything he's done, ever lol.

Look at the photos on that thread and tell me that's amateur work...

  17. Yes mate we do if you would like a price just let me know

  18. Any thoughts on a cost to fix this?

  21. Your right that isn't amateurs work but a large amount of that work is on his own car and his friends cars! Plus your unlikely to see him advertising jobs that he hasn't done so well. A painter is only as good as the work he produces and i know that he can be very hit and miss like any other bodyshop!

  22. Ha! I wish mate. Had a very good quote though!

I can have a look and give you a quote

  24. A good friend of mine uses a body shop called reflex, not to sure where they are but I do know they mostly do show cars and are very highly rated in the vw world , a few of my mates won't go anywhere else

  25. Mick at spray station is not the best in the country lmao, he did the side of my mates Leon cupra R, and it's just (ok) if I'm honest but it was cheap

Cars gone away for a few days :-)

I'm hoping to pop up some much nicer pictures soon!

  27. Harry, I can only speak from knowing him personally and seeing his work countless times. Your the first person iv ever heard a bad word. Iv seen many cars that he worked on from a split bumper, to a concourse mk 1 golf gti, plenty of full colour Changes, to a escort Cossie that had been wrapped round a lampost at warp speed. All of which were better than new.

Steve, I hope he did screw your mates car up. I certainly wouldnt make any more than the bare minimum effort for someone like you lmao.

Just to update this I got the car back earlier this week from Carl at Brian Leighton Garages in Howden. If you want any work done contact Carl on here (smithandroper).

Anyway it was a totally different experience than what I received from my local garage, I was invited to take the car in the body shop and the car was assessed there any then under differing lighting and it was obvious the colour wasn't right.

After viewing a few swatches a match was found and the car was booked in (and a lovely Qashqai was provided in the meantime - I turned down the Range Rover )

I was kept in the loop after this and the car was ready for me earlier than I expected, so much so I had to leave it to pick it up for a couple of days!

This is the before as you recall:

And these are the afters - It was a very sunny day yesterday so I will continue to update with better pictures in differing lights:

To say I'm happy is an understatement - I've been studying my old pictures of when I got the car and the bumper is as good if not a better match to the car, When I say you don't even bother to look at it I mean that there's nothing to look at anymore!

You also get an Ixell 5 year paint guarantee in case anything happens to the paint which I think is excellent.

The calipers and wheels really let the down car now the bodywork is done so I'll be refurbing the calipers soon - They'll be going red to match the later cars (shut up Ads!)and I'll probably replace the seals while I'm at it. Then I'll be going back to Carl's gaff to get the wheels painted as soon as I've got the cash!

  29. I've just gotten back from having my bumper done from the same place. I did recognise your car parked at the garage mid week and spoke to Carl about this. He's very helpful and sound bloke and hes just painted my black R26 bumper, it was spot on and I just need to fit it now to get the car looking its best again. Ill get photos up later but worth a 100mile round trip, and at a good price too! Would defo recommend him to other folk on here.

  30. Just to add to this I've just got mine back after having the back bumper resprayed. I'm super super chuffed! Echoing the above really, fantastic service, fantastic product and a fantastic price. Thanks Carl!

  31. Top job there, well done lads )

  32. Thanks guy's for your kind comments I am just glad i could help you all out and if i can be any more help you know where we are.
    Thanks again Carl

  33. Told you his work is the best

Their servicing isn't too shabby either. Personally I won't take my cars anywhere else.

  34. Popped a little review up in the traders section. Thanks again Carl
