megane 250 remaped today disapointed with low readings what you think?

  1. Picking up 250 cup this comming Wednesday from k-tec cant wait test drove last week when standard. Wanted remaped for when I pick it up Wednesday. They rang me today and only made 246bhp standard but 272ftlb torque. After remap 281bhp and 338ftlb seems low to me. Obviously im all new to 250 rs as owned 225 f1 team and r26 for ages or is this normal. Has custom map btw. comments would be appreciated.

  2. Id say that seems low too, I know they're supposed to be around 250bhp standard but in my experience the mk3s are usually over this figure standard.

Doesnt help your using ktec, they're useless and that map is probably dangerous too...

  3. What you recommend I do then can rs tunning remap over it sorry sound thick but im new to this and the car

  4. Tell them to take the map off and get yourself over to Leeds sometime, no rush is there

  5. At the very least I'd get an AFR printout to confirm its safe. Try speaking to ktec and asking why the figure is slightly down? Could be a mapping issue, a faulty component like an actuator etc or just an oddly weak engine.

I shouldn't worry too much about figures though, if it puts a smile on your face then be happy with that.

  6. AFR isnt the only thing to check.
You can be "safe" with a sub 12 afr but be knocking.

  7. Thanks guys for your input.like I said new to 250 world does torque seem to high? I ask them to map it with panel filter but they mapped with bog standard renault paper one could this have bearing also was very hot today down south. Wish I left alone now:-(

  8. It's been very hot, can't help.

  9. Id be happy with them results tbh

  10. The standard bhp seems right, they are billed at 247bhp (250PS) and your torque seems a bit higher than usual. But I was under the impression a stage 1 got the car to nearer 300bhp so would say the remap figure seems a little low.

  11. How many times, ktecs rollers over read torque.

also you just need to read the bluefin thread on here where they asked ktec to map the car for this guy and it made it worse!

  12. I agree thats why I posted to get peoples views

  13. I agree 100%

  14. As Ben said best get an AFR print just to be safe after the fiasco that's been going on with regards to Superchips/Blu-fin/K-tec mapping.

Also worth noting that K-tec rollers are well known for producing inaccurate figures (normally on the high side), but as also said by other members the high temperatures this week won't have helped.

Torque figures sound about right but BHP does seem to be exceptionally low in comparison with other Mk3's running stage 1.

Mapping with standard filter will not have had any really noticeable effect.

  15. Is a stage one map just a new air filter and a map?

  16. standard cars make in the region of 260-270

    246 - ouch

  17. I would like to remap mine, but I afraid about 2 things: reliability (clutch, gearbox) and insurance.

  18. Yes just stage ond map and panel filter only. Think I see how I get on with it when I collect the car Wednesday and then go up to rs tuning I want at least 290bhp not 281!!!!

  19. If you're going to rs tuning I'd ask for it to be put on the standard map when you buy.

  20. Whys that?

  21. So do we supply the air filter or do they? I think k-tec supplied one but I'm guessing rstuning don't?

  22. It's not essential for a stage one map, the standard panel filter with a software download is still a stage one. I'd be surprised if the uprated filter offers more than a couple bhp.

  23. Get away from the idea of "stage" maps guys. Its old school tuner BS.

A map is a map. Its tweaked for your settings.

  24. A map is a map yes. But a map with new filter, exhast, intake pipes, ect may be a stage 2 map... new turbo, intercooler ect might be a stage 3

  25. Stages are bullshit anyway. Just mod it to how you want it.

  26. Bingo.

It got out of hand years ago when companies like GT Tuning ( five turbos ) released a stage 2 engine. Thats a rebuilt engine to you and me. A stage 2 turbo having a tiny bit bigger rear housing. It all got a bit crackers with a stage 7 ( seven ) head.

In other words , people that have got more money than they know what to do with liberation tool.

  28. Hi Ben,

You are happy to bash us on here but not to our faces at the French Car Show?

    David.

  29. I remember these days well, GT tuning (Roland) and BB performance tuning, they both use to quote some ridiculous power figures (from a 1.4 litre engine), supposedly running unlimited boost iirc about 30psi, then their cars would go bang as soon as they had finished their quarter mile drag.

  30. OK, back on topic.

It seems to be very common for people to compare one set of figures from one dyno to those from a different car on a different dyno. The dyno is used as a tool to test the car to see what gains have been achieved, not to compare them to another set of figures from another source.

To give you some indication, we have recently tested two remapped Meganes on our Superflow dyno which have been previously tested on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. The first was a Megane 250 which made 320bhp on the DD and 292bhp on our dyno, the second was a R26 which made over 290bhp on a DD (using standard turbo!) and 264bhp on our dyno. So as you can see comparing one dyno to another is a complete waste of time.

The cutomers car discussed on here we have recently mapped and gained around 35hp and well over 60lbs/ft of torque. The afr is spot on and the car performs very well. We are not about chasing figures and we are happy with the results.

I hope this clears this up.

PS. And on the subject of Superchips, they asked us for a base file for them to make some changes to for their customer, we did not supply them a finished file and to this date we have no idea of the outcome of their dealings with their customer.

  31. Problems not with you David and I find your workshop workmanship top notch along with your products.
However the chap you insist on employing to do your software mapping ( his name escapes me but used to own GDI before he bodged that up too) is clueless. Not only has he single handedly plummeted your reputation on other closely related forums but I've had the unfortunate experience of being on the other end of his maps which resulted in rich end misfires.

This is why despite you being my closest dyno equipped renault specialist i opted for the FastChip remote map for my megane, such is the power of forum banter. I shall still buy your parts as a previous happy customer but will happily keep clear at FCS, give you more attention to shut those bonnets properly

  32. ouch!

oh dear what a lot of fuss about a load of old nonsense

  35. I have alluded to the same on many posts.

  36. Ben, I can assure you we now have closing bonnet pins down to a fine art!!

  37. Exactly Andy, it should be the difference between the before and after that matters, not what the peak figure is.

    good point well made

  39. Pick the car up today drove before mapped and now mapped by k-tec all the worry about figures has gone its performance and it really is a much faster car in every way goes like absolute stink very happy with results and I now know figures on paper dont always translate to power on the road. Anyway very happy with k-tec service and mapping and without a doubt was the right decision to get a 250 cup!!! Will post so pics soon . Cant believe what great cars the 250's really are!

  40. Good for you man, enjoy
