Been at Outlon today. Car was going fine. Did 3 sessions. On the last session my steering felt like it just went. As I’m going straight but steering turned to one side heavily. Took it to a local garage everything looked fine. I didn’t take any heavy kerbs. On the drive home I noticed it is fine under easy acceleration or cruising. But hard acceleration or on boost a little and it wants to pull heavily like makes you want to stop driving and slow right down. I let felt like it tried to pull both ways I will investigate that more and see if it is one sided but just drove home slow and carefully. Gutted it cut my track day short. I did put some federal 595 rsr tyres on the front. first thing I will do is fit these 4 new yokos on that I have to rule the tyres out. Any ideas please what could be. Thank you
If it was ok when you started it’s likely to be something that’s worked loose or broken, check all the usual suspects wheel bolts, drop links, ball joints, track rods etc etc
It will be the rubber bushes in the track control arms, they tear and loosen really quickly if you track the car, best replace them with purple or black poly bushes, warning the factory bushes are a real bitch to get out.
Thanks for the replies. I will and need to get to bottom ASAP as got Donny on 14th and then Nurburgring (rules permitting) week or 2 after.
Drive shaft dropped out, Managed to get it back together and drive home, think it will need replacing as the re wasn't any grease left in the inside CV joint
hope it is ok mate. Prob is with these parts aren’t off the shelf so much like drive shafts prob used or dealer only. There is few company’s that do full refurb with warranty too if you need. I also noticed after my last track day at Donington that the cv joint had slipped and let grease out all over the inside of the wheel. That was regressed and replaced easy enough so hopefully yours will be ok. I will take a closer look now and hope that’s not rested to this issue.
The inner boot was shredded, so a 150 mile drive home with no grease wont have done it any good, my local parts supplier say they can get a new shaft for £140 and they say its the right one for a R26, so i will pull it out and see if it needs replacing. I have had the boots pop off, think its due to the extra heat created when they are being tracked, i put the boot back on and squeezed a bit of air out and that seems to have done the trick.
Turns out to be the front arm front bush had totally split. It was the black series camber adjustable ones and were only installed like a week ago Gone for none adjustable road ones now as I will upgrade suspension and camber plates at some point soon. Appreciate the help from everyone. Next date is 14th at Donny and then rules permitting The Ring end of June. Thank you
If its the camber adjustable ones then they will have turned, had the same on my 225 bloody nightmare, in the end i used a chisel and bent the metal bit that was close to it to stop it turning.
The bushes had split totally. Sorted them with new power flex none adjustable ones. thanks to k-tec for quick delivery. But problem was still there although a little better I had it booked in for new clutch so I asked the mechanics to give it a good look over as they stripped it for the clutch. Again nothing found was just advised to use genuine parts Now getting well fxxcked off with this megane. Took it on a mates mot ramp this shook the car in different directions. after close inspection we noticed play in the track arm. Where it went into steering rack. Was a few mill play and think knocking. So back on to k-trc for another quick and we’ll priced delivery. Two arms and rod ends. Thought I better go both. Problem has gone now just where alignment to do ) So… took it for tracking and happy when couldn’t believe it but the ESP warning light is on now. FFS. Cannot believe it. feels very much like brakes or being applied or power is being cut. Pressed the esp button and straight away seems to release it?? Any ideas? Gonna look over the areas it has been worked on to make sure nothing is obvious and get it diagnosed soon but what luck? Last track day ruined over a little play in the track arm. Now was supposed to ready for ring and that’s cancelled. I really hope this car starts to perform soon without these issues. So far I’ve replaced all bushes nearly. New springs. Genuine full clutch kit. Cam and aux belt and water pump. mall new brakes and much more ..
