Springs fitting on 265

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Ahmed918, Apr 13, 2020.

  1. As part of fitting springs, my understanding is the driveshafts on front axle would need to come off

is it worthwhile buying a litre of gearbox oil for the garage? Or is the loss of oil, little to none?

Yes it would be worth it, how long has it been since the gearbox oil was last changed ??? might be worth draining it all and filling with fresh oil, just saying :laughing:

  3. Car’s done about 40k Ian, and i only just had it fully changed about a month ago haha

Gave the mechanic 3 x 1 litres, said he left half a litre in the car but for the life of me no idea where he left it. Will order another litre to be on the safe side

    cheers for swift reply

  4. Ian, where is the reservoir for gearbox oil located on the mk3?

Is there a min / max line which i can check after the springs are fitted to gauge exactly how much needs to be topped up as opposed to risk overfilling?

If it's only just been done then just a top up amount would be required.
It is possible the get the hub unit off each side without pulling the shafts out but you might accidentally pull the left side one out, right hand side will not come out as its held in with a bearing on the shaft.

The drain is at the lowest point of the gearbox, cant really miss it, it vertical.
The filler plug is also the level plug, towards the front of the gearbox behind the wheel and the front arch liner

You cant really over fill it
