What engine bolts need replacing?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Ljacobs, Oct 27, 2019.

  1. Hi All,

I'm currently rebuilding a 225 turbo engine from the bottom up, engine code F4R 774. I am questioning what bolts need to be replaced, so far I have assumed the following:

    1) big end bolts
    2) connecting rod bolts
    3) head bolts
    4) flywheel bolts
    5) crank pulley bolt?
    6) anything else?

    Thanks
    Lee

Number 1 and 2 are the same thing

Are you replacing the pistons and con rods ??? the con rods should have new bolts, if you are upgrading them.
If not then replace the rod/big end bolts.
Head bolts as they are stretch bolts, one use only.

Flywheel bolts are not needed, just torque to the correct level but thread lock them.

Crank pulley bolt also not required to be replaced.

  3. Sorry for 1) and 2) I meant connecting rods and main crank journal bolts

Main crank bolts are good to use a couple of times

I have added a list of torque settings to your other post
