Tyre help for 8.5J - 225 / 235

  1. Hi,

I need a bit of advice please.....

I have recently fitted my Fifteen52 Tarmac alloys which are 8.5j width. At the moment I have put my Yokohama Prada Spec 2 tyres on which are a 225/40/18 tyre.

My question is, am I ok to keep running these tyres for general day to day and also track work? Or should I change to maybe a 235 size tyre?

Please ignore th amount of poke on the rear wheels, my spacers as still on at the moment as I am waiting for my normal length bolts to arrive.

  2. 235 is the correct spec for an R26 but you can stick on 225, however for road use you need to be aware, insurance wise, that 225 is non standard, as are your wheels of course.

  3. Thanks!

I need to replace the front 2 tyres so thinking of replacing the 4 with 235 40 18, especially with my first track day in a few weeks.

There seems to be a big price difference between 225 and 235 tyres though which is a bit annoying!

  4. Way of the world.

Plus a 235 will be less of a stretch on a 8.5 rim.

  5. 235 it is then..........

    Thanks for your help.

I am running 255 35 18's on my 8.5j, did have 225's and killed them on track as the sides folded in when cornering.

  7. I hadn't even considered 255 tyres as I thought they would be too big.
I don't suppose you have any pictures with the 255/35 tyres fitted do you?
