Tyre choice for RS265

  1. I was just told by my mechanic that my fronts are gone on my 2014 RS265 Cup Premium and he was suggesting either the Continental ContiSport 5P (currently on the car), Bridgestone Potenza RE003 or the Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Size is 235/40R18.

I have 18" Advan Racing rims, lowered the car with Eibach springs and would like to hit the track a couple of times a year. I don't mind feeling the road - this is a real drivers car as you know.

I used to hit the track many years ago with my turbo charged Golf GTI which I ran on slicks as I couldn't get over the fact that I ruin a road tyre in one sitting whereas I had a number of runs on the slicks not mentioning the extra fun on slicks . Times probably have changed and the life of a performance street tyre may allow for track sessions.

What do you guys have on your cars for the above application? While price is a factor I'm not putting the cheapest rubber on just to compromise the fun.

  2. For just a couple of track days a year, get a set of extra wheels with some semi slicks. Drop them on as required.

For just one tyre that does the daily and is also good on a trackday - Michelin Cup 2.

  3. Or ad08r

  4. How is the AD08R on the road, wet? What about durability? My simple mind would tell me softer compound = higher wear.

Looks like the Michelin Sport Cup 2 is not available in 235/40 18 which I'm on now.

  5. I have Cup 2`s on 235/40 18.

  6. If you want a tyre that covers both and track and road you will have to accept some compromises.

  7. The AD's are still a road compound iirc just more slick, they should last well enough.

  8. Ad08r is a great all roid tyre at a great price but as above will comprise wet performance for dry

  9. I've just bought a 265 with brand new Michelin Pilot super sports and compared to the Eagle F1's I had on the 197 they're incredible.

  11. ps4 very similar all round performance to the super sport..for a all round tyre, you wont get better.
ad08r would be my choice if you are willing to make that wet weather compromise, without getting to scary.

Some very good prices for these at the moment.

  12. I have PS4s. Great all round road tyre and if they're anything as good as the original PS2s that came on the car from new then I expect them to perform well on the 'occasional' track use that my car now gets.

I had NS2Rs on before and although they are very sticky and a great budget track tyre my road miles far outweighed my track miles. These type of tyres are not particularly great over the winter period / wet UK weather.
