Suspension Refresh RS250

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by RHK3, Feb 8, 2017.

  1. Hey guys

My RS 250 Cup is coming up to 7 years old in July and I'm the 4th owner.

I've had lower swivel/ball joints replaced last year as I had a knocking noise etc.

As for the rest of the suspension, what would need replacing soon? Shocks? Drop Links? Etc.

Also another thing is, I'm getting a scratching noise when I brake at low speeds, it's coming from the front drivers side wheel, what could that be?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Noise is probably inner pads worn, chassis wise, replace what needs replacing.... Maybe take it for a health check at your local dealer?

  3. mines coming up for 7 years old 60k and I've just done upper and lower ball joints, drop links, anti rotation links and passenger side wishbone I don't think it needed half of them but wanted to give it a good refresh before I start doing some track days.

  4. I had my front brake pads changed 2 weeks ago.

Yeah I might do, didn't actually think of that.

  5. Yeah mines the same, 7 years old and just gone over 60k.

How much did that all cost roughly?

  6. upper and lower ball joints were £300, drop links £70, anti rotation links £110, wishbone £135, only done the passenger side one but will replace the drivers one at some point this year.

Fitted them all myself so zero labour costs.

  7. @Gaztr26 that's not so bad.

Don't think I'd be confident enough to fit it myself though lol

  8. I don't mind having a go the ball joints and rusty bolts were my only issues.

  9. I'm getting my gearbox oil changed on Saturday due to gearbox/diff whine. So while the cars in the air I'll ask them to have a look and see if anything needs replacing

  10. I did a full front end refresh on mine last year:

    Drop links
    Twist links
    Inner/outer track rods
    Upper/lower ball joints
    Suspension
    Both wishbones
    Top mounts
    Wheel bearings

Sourced a lot of parts bar the wishbones online. They are made by TRW so ordered from a German company and saved a fortune. Got the dampers from a lad on here off is 275 trophy that he practically gave me (cheers Matt) and got the wishbones from Renault. All fitted my Mark Black. Car feels mega now

  11. Did you get it all done in one go?

What was the rough cost of getting it all done? Just so I have a rough idea.

I'm assuming north of £1k including parts and labour?

  12. Around £800 I think mate

  13. @jack250 Oh okay that's not so bad.

Where did you source all the parts from? Any places you used in particular that you would recommend?

  15. Okay thanks I'll have a look during my lunch break lol.

Have you replaced your shocks yet? How long do they normally last?

  16. Yeah shocks as well. From near side failed so changed them all

  17. Need to get mine checked. Have no idea what to look for to see if they're still okay.
