Hello All, Recently purchased myself a black R26 to use for track days, it's been a long time since I've owned a front wheel drive car. I've already upgraded the discs, pads, brake lines, fluid, tyres and stripped out the back. I tested the car fully at Brands Hatch at the weekend and I was very impressed in how much front end grip the car has. One thing I didn't like though is the recaro bucket seats, I just move about too much in them so they'll be going up for sale at some point. Look forward to speaking to a few people, I'll definitely need some advice on the way Thanks
Welcome! Sounds like we're both in pretty much the same place right now - new owners of black R26s, looking to use them as track toys. We've also started with the same mods. Seats and coilovers (+full front suspension refresh) are next on my list. Get a thread started in the "Megane Projects" section, I'll follow with interest!
Thanks for the welcome, as requested this is a pic from Brands... Just waiting for the msv photographer to upload his pics
We're triplets. I've got a Black R26, brake pads, discs fluid and hoses, rear seats out and boarded floor. BC coilovers, track wheels with Federal 595's. Drivers harness. Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
Great minds think alike I'm currently looking at weld in cages but there's loads of things on the list to do. Even though I've stripped out the back I find the Megane so quiet so an exhaust and induction kit will be high on the list.
Black must be a popular colour. I've also got Federal 595's on mine, they performed excellently on track. They are on par with the set of Toyo R888R's I've got on my C63 AMG
Interesting - I'm visiting my dad who lives about 15 mins from Snett - might pop down if I get a chance. How do you find the BC coilovers? I've got some on order, will be fitting them in a couple of weekends time....
Indeed, and we both drive C63s also! I did a DIY ITG induction kit - have a look at the build thread in my signature - cheap as chips and it sounds ridiculous, in a good way. I've got R888Rs sat in the garage waiting to go on the R26. Weld in cage is also on my list (after suspension, seats, injectors and a stage 2 remap) - I looked at the bolt in options but they seem to be largely "show cages" rather than adding any real chassis rigidity or even safety. Let me know how you get on with your research!
Wow we really have followed a very similar path.......just had a look at your build thread and I almost bought a Caterham as well. I struggled to sell my Mk1 escort so the sensible side (wife) crept in and persuaded me not to buy another 2 seat car and I ended up buying the C63 so we could go out as a family. The C63 saw three track days before I decided to get the Megane........so i could turn it into a two seater lol K-tec sell the full Oreca weld in cage which is £658.80, I've also had a quote from Tube Benders at £600. Luckily a friend of mine works as a welder so he's happy to weld it in. I'm still looking.......
I didn't talk to any other Megane owners on Saturday, there was only a mk3 yellow one that I remember and I didn't see him/her to talk to.
It's the only one i have done at Brands, that was the 18th October, must be someone else, he also had a Merc. This must be the reason i have an Orange megane then as i have an SL55 and not a C63
I was there in my merc in October but it was the 12th. Looks like its quite common to own a merc and a megane
The BC coilovers are really great, massive improvement in the handling. I was at Bedford a few weeks ago and they were on par with another R26 with KW variant 3, if not slightly better. Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
That's very interesting, I was originally looking at KW coilovers but I was wondering if they are worth spending the money over the BC's
We must be men of a certain age ! Lol I have just bought a R26 to use as a track toy I was going to buy a C63 but bought a jag XFS Stripped the rear out and complete new front brakes, allready has milltec and intake on I will be putting b.c Coilovets on Got my first track day in the megane at donnington this Sunday , looking forward to trying it out
Yeah we must be lol I had an XF shooting brake as a courtesy car once, it was the smoothest car I've ever driven. You won't be disappointed I loved the first track day in mine.
Thanks Lynchy.......there's so much you can do with these cars I'm like a kid in a sweet shop lol Once I've sorted a cage, seats and coilovers I'll sort out an exhaust, induction kit and a remap. Not trying to go big with power
