hi all, some of you may recognise the username from various BMW, Clio, Civic forums - especiallly Cliosport.net Really starting to seriously consider getting an r26 as an everyday but track capable motor. My initial reliability concerns have been assured on the CS pages - the most reliable cars I've had was not my ep3, but my ph1 172's but i wasn't sure this would be the same for a turbo'd RS! Anyway, will be keeping an eye on some R26s for sale and considering putting my e46 facelift 330ci up for sale sometime (which is completely stupid as I've put a good £1200+ into it in the last 6 months!) Anyway, hi from Stockport
Welcome Danith I came from a 330i clubsport silky smooth motor and nice well put together interior. The r26 completely different beast. Handling pin sharp
Yeah such a nice car the 46, especially with the 6 speed. Thing is I have the ep3 for track and nurburg and the 46 for everyday. Like chalk and cheese. The ep3 is parked up 30 miles away at my mums tho! Thinking of selling both and getting one of these as a complete all rounder. Handling is more important than speed too, had an mps briefly before the 330 and it was rapid but awful
Ha Yeah I'd love a 250 after seeing them destroy almost everything at nurburg! 5-7k only I'm afraid. 57/08 plate - not fussed on colour but not a huge fan of black. Love that purply blue but looks quite rare.
Well white and yellow command a bit of a premium so maybe stay away from them. I'd be looking at something that had belts done, drive shafts and front suspension & hubs refreshed. The motor is pretty strong especially if left standard but the other mechanicals aren't really up to being thrashed for 50k miles, IMHO.
Cool, I like the white but I also like my waxes and polishes so a darker colour that comes up better would be nicer. As said tho it'll be totally condition dependant and one that's been enthusiast owned rather than someone who knows nothing about it except for what the garages told them
Does seem to be the most boxes ticked. Will always look at m3 46s but they're getting fewer and further between. Be good to give turbo another shot after that awful mazda
Xanda73 is right mine had just over 40k on the clock and required Cambelt change due to age which was over due. Plus I had cabin vibration which required engine mounts upgraded to powerflex
Standard servicing items tho eh. I'm not a million miles from Birchdown and have had belts done on my 172s
Bored at lunch and having a browse. 227 bhp and 1375kg for an R26 227 bhp and 1360kg for an Escort RS Cosworth Escort Cossy was undeniably the dream car for me as a 19 year old lad, finally I get to own one without a ridiculous whale tail! I'm sold! ha
Just a ridiculous whale arse.... No, they are good cars, but you've got to 'get them'. A lot of people don't.
Right. I've decided as long as we don't have a bump at Nurburg (which we WON'T! - but it has happened) then the 330ci is going up for sale mid august and I'll be on the lookout for a clean r26 (with minor mods a bonus - susp/zorst)
If 7k is your budget mate you will find a cracking one for that price! Good luck and keep us posted on what you buy!
BMW sold - budget is whittled down to 5, maybe 5.5 I can stretch to. Any colour but yellow, under 80k, belts not due for a couple of years/15k at least.
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...searchad=new,nearlynew,used&logcode=p&adPos=4 This looks ideal, as i'd read you like silver: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...searchad=new,nearlynew,used&logcode=p&adPos=2 and this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...searchad=new,nearlynew,used&logcode=p&adPos=6 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...earchad=new,nearlynew,used&logcode=p&adPos=10
Cheers. 1, 2 and 4 are 225's though? The 3rd ive enquired about as it looks spot on Has to be a 3 door too. Theres a silver one on ph but has been on for ages. Gonna go look at it tomorrow but anyone know anything about it? Based in warwick. Seems weird its been for sale for so long
I got one! Silver (favourite colour), 63k, BTM did the belts and pump at 43k. FSH. Totally std. Michelin pilots all round. Plans: Shortshift off Lee Backbox (or mid box) chop with some larger tailpipes (for looks) Modified airbox Unicorn remap Braided lines Decent pads (got mintex at mo - dunno if any good? were crap on my ep3!) Eibach or Cooksports (whichever doesn't ruin ride the most) Lots and lots of polishing/waxing Maybe some Pro race 2 once lowered R26.R spoiler Leather door cards Double DIN Some interior carbon dipping Any tips on the above welcome!
Cabin vibration means the mounts are worn? Thought would be other way around. Whereabouts are the mounts?
shortshift a must. airbox noise only RS Tuning remap is the best by far..well worth the trip to make sure you engine is ok before increasing power..you wont be disappointed with pauls maps. I have carbotech pads..and they are fantastic..others use DS and RC5+ with good results eibachs are standard on the R26..but cooksports lower without fking up the handling...which is pretty much perfect to start with,so don't play to much. PS4 or PSS are excellent tyres..so hopefully you have these already.
Shortshift is imminent Airbox is purely for noise (but nothing intrusive or will negatively affect performance) Unicorn will be where I get it mapped as it's getting good reviews and a mile from my house! Not sure whether to get a better FMIC tho first? I'll look into those pads but don't want anything purely track focussed - just fast road (had Ds2500 on my Ep3 and they were good I spose but kicked out a fair bit of dust) The eibach proline lower the std R26 Eibachs another 25mm I hear - again purely for looks, I like it how it is ride wise yeah I've got pilots all round not sure which variation
I did everything on mine prior to the map that way I wasn't spending out twice on a tweak. Had the car set up the once. I would encourage you to do the same if the budget could stretch to the FMIC and of course bigger is better if your looking for healthy power figures. Also running eibach pro lines on my 225 CUP and it dropped it a nice -20mm. Nothing too savage and still nice and stiff for fast road use only although I would love to have a go on track with it.
Pro lines are a 25mm drop on an R26 too? Just that r26 have eibach as std just guess they arent a drop compared to ph1
PH1 CUPS run Eibachs as standard too but I think different shocks to the R26. Makes a slight difference when lowering them but I found that they dropped mine -20mm. if you want a bigger drop then its Cooksports or coil overs.
Cooksports are impossible to get hold of tho. Don't they ruin the ride a bit tho, ideally I don't want it any less comfy than it is now which isnt 100% possible with lowering the height but as minimal as possible Got a pic of yours on prolines?
Actually parked on a hill outside my house in second pic so squatted a little on the handbrake. In desperate need of spacers as you can probably see.
So its a very similar drop on the eibach that it is on cooksports? If so I'll stick with what I know and go eibach
You wont get away from dust if you want a decent fast road pad. I have used carbotech xp8 since the car was new,and they are fantastic on the road. excellent cold bite, and no fade..just make sure you change the fluid as well before you put them on. As you say though, they are dusty..but I don't care..they transform the brakes, giving them excellent stopping power. A must if you are upping the power.
Specialists in the F4RT engine in the megane are few and far between. This is why all the most experienced people on here, who have been knocking around the scene for years, recommend RS Tunings maps. He developed his map for the megane over years, from the very start from the original 225. I drove to leeds from devon..but what price would you be willing to pay for a safe engine. Mine made 265hp/285lb/ft..5 years ago. Still running strong today..not 1 problem..ever. The power delivery is like a factory map..no peaks or troughs..just strong power..and more than enough if the car is handling as it should. convienience isn't always the best option. have a look at this thread..this is what happens when even big companys get it wrong, with the customer paying the price.. http://rsmegane.com/threads/my-bluefin-dyno-results.3064/page-2

You're right on the different car thing. Definitely prefer the meg though, even if it does feel like it was made from a kinder egg toy
Cheers for the heads up - yeah I'm wary of 'remaps' done by some helmet with his laptop for £100. Honestly, Unicorn are gaining a very good rep from Meg owners on the various groups. Have a butchers. They're very very highly regarded for VAG and Porsche. I take my reliability much more seriously than performance!
