New R26 owner in Bucks

  1. Evening chaps.

I picked up my new (to me!) R26 last Friday from fellow forum member Stu.

The car is destined for track and fast road use to provide hopefully much entertainment over the coming months whilst my other track car is having some major work done.

Im a relative newbie to Megane ownership although I have a few mates locally - one with a red R26 track car and another with an R26.R that I've had push me most of the way around Spa, so I'm well aware of their capabilities!

My R26 is pretty standard - it's been very well serviced and mod-wise has the Scorpion 3" cat-back and Godspeed front discs with some shockingly bad Mintex pads. It appears to have some play in the steering (beyond the expect torque steer) and some early signs of clutch slip having done 63k.

The immediate plan is to refresh the suspension components, fit some pfc or carbotec xp10 pads front and rear and bleed the brakes with some decent fluid. It last had its cambelt service done in 2012 at 40k miles so am I right inthinking this will be due at the end of the year?

Beyond this the next step will be to finish the exhaust with a 3" decat down pipe, fit some lowering springs (cooksport and H&R seem to be widely used), cut the airbox (or fit a ktec or itg induction kit), a larger intercooler (ktec/airtec?) and then get it up to RSTuning for mapping.

Further plans include SMF / clutch, stripped the rear seats and some of the interior out, ditching the crap Recaros with their ridiculously high and non-adjustable seating position and replacing with some buckets, harnesses and a cage.

I had a little look for cages and it seems the ktec one is the only real one widely available, but I quite like the bolt-in one in the R26.R.... Or maybe I'll look at getting someone welded in... Decisions decisions!

Hello mate, glad to see you joined up.

Will be interesting to see what you get up to with it, as it sounds like you've got some good things planned.

Cheers again for the blast in the Golf.

  3. Welcome bud cracking cars on track can't wait to do my next track day ! My clutch is slipping too so I will be upgrading soon
    any photos ?

  4. Welcome along fella

  5. Welcome along mate

Plans sound great, pretty much what I've done to my R26.

They are great on track I can't actually think what I could replace mine with for similar costs that would be anywhere near as good!

What is your other track car?

  6. Welcome Andy

  7. Cheers for the welcome!

Thanks mate - glad you enjoyed our little hoon

Do you have a project thread for yours i can look at? I'd be interested to see what you've done

The other track car is a 1995 Audi S2 Coupe. Somewhat modified.

    Just the 1... [IMG]

  8. I recognise the R26.R in the background is it gregs

  9. Yes, it awoke from it's winter slumber to the noise of a fellow cheese-eating surrender money parked on the driveway.

  10. Yeah I do actually mate, Not Normal Dans R26 project it's under mate

  11. Not that it seems to be getting much use anymore........

  12. God forbid it should ever reach 30k miles

  13. He should either drive it, or sell it. Pointless being left unused.

  14. Dealers seem to be speculating on them atm. Mind you none seem to be selling at the price they want.

Waiting to see if anyone is actually willing to pay big for one might not be a bad idea. Mind you, a dude has a R26R at £15K private and it's not shifting. Interesting times.

  15. A guy near me bought one for over 20k, no Ti system in white 30k miles

  16. Not so sure he has made a good decision, particularly at 30K miles and at that price.

Dealers are trying to speculate and pump them up into collector status, so only very low mileage, full spec attract a premium.

They have to find buyers though and many sit unwanted.

Same applies to the Trophy R, 3 for sale for months, reduced prices and no punters.

  17. Welcome about time you got a really track car !!!!!

  18. I wondered how long it'd take you to arrive
