Hi all Not sure how many members in here are F1 fans for those that are, then like me, you may be bored of this years season and are looking forward to 2014. I'm apprehensive due to the change to a smaller engine or power unit which must mean the pinnacle of the Motorsport world is slowing down again and when Renault say the 1.6 L engine has 3 times the power of a Clio RS I can't really get excited about it! One positive is that our beloved Renault Sport is producing engines for the likes of Red Bull and Lotus who have been smashing the likes of Ferrari, Maclaren and Mercedes or at least giving them a run for their money, for quite a while now. To be honest Ive been an F1 fan for more than 20 years and can honestly say that I was bored with the sport half way through the last two seasons, I am really hoping that the the introduction of new engine regulations kind of levels the playing field out a little bit. It's great that a Renault powered car is doing the business but there are so many talented drivers in the sport that are not getting the recognition that they deserve. I think the one thing that can surely be gleaned from the last couple of seasons in F1 is that Adrian Newey and Renaultsport are a true force to be reckoned with.
Have to agree with that, Im looking forward to the new power units next year, im sure the lap times wont change much, times move on and they always find new ways of making them quicker (and the FIA always try and find ways to slow them down) I still think the points system needs looking at, 25 for a win is too much IMO and I think you should get say 3 points for P1, 2 for P2 and 1 for P3 in Qually with another point for fastest lap (we know who would go for that every race) All in all I love the sport and watch every race although some are better than others from a viewing point.
i really want them to start on a level playing field but it wont happen. red bull have such an advantage already and if we would be dumb to expect them to lose this going into next year. i personally hope the merc engine kills the renault one so I can watch finger boy cry in a corner but i just dont think it will happen. they are still limited by regulations so i doubt one engine will be significantly faster as all engine suppliers have a vast expertise available to them. that said, who knows, maybe ferrari bring out an amazing engine and they leave the rest of the field behind with the saubers in tow. realistically, renault have been turbo'ing for so many years I think they will master it, espicially with the steps forward they have already made against the rest with the v8's. bring in ballast i say!
Yeah I'm not a fan of finger boy either nor the dominance of the sport, which seems to be repeating itself from a decade ago. I'm not sure ballast will work with F1 tho with the length of races etc but it does seem like a good idea to get something for qualifying on pole because the Saturday seems to be a massive waste of time in soem races. My biggest concern is to do with these tyres this season went down hill following the Mercedes tyre testing incident where some time after they changed back to last years spec then red bull dominated. Newey is clearly a genius tho but not to forget Brawn who will hopefully stay with the sport. What's the score between those 2 I recall some thing like Brawn- 10 drivers and 10 constructor championships and Newey- 9 of each???
yer that sounds about right, i reckon Brawn to McLaren for 2015 Honda. we shall see though again i agree with the tyres, you cannot have the drivers driving at 80% everywhere so their tyres last, seems mad. im interested to see how they are going to cope with the extra torque, i read somewhere the tyres are going to be wider but is that enough!?
