So 4 weeks ago I put 2 news front tyres on and have to have the tracking adjusted as it was quite a bit out.........no surprise there really, but the tyre fitting place say 'come back in 3/4 weeks and we'll do a free follow up check and adjust of he tracking again as it 'settles in' " I duly went back today and the tracking did need to be adjusted again!! It can't be normal can it ?
It can be different for a few reasons. Car has settled since the tyres have been fitted or youve been over bumps / potholes etc.
I had the same thing at my local ATS. Didn't bother taking it back since they kept handing the car back with the steering wheel off center, and I don't have another 2 hours to go through it all over again!
Is 4-wheel alignment recommended/even needed for the mk3 or will front only do it? I've just had 2x new boots on and the entire front sub-frame was off recently for a gearbox swap, so could probably do with looking at.
Different person at a different location......... The roads in Cardiff are full of those 'traffic calming' bumps in the road! Exactly how do bumps and potholes adjust the tracking though?
There's nothing that's adjustable except front tracking on mk3, but deffo worth doing as it affects the vehicles understeer and tram lining
It's an interesting question. If a pothole where to physically change the tie rod length then that would mean the joint would have worn and therefore the tracking value would be able to fluctuate between what it was and what it's been knocked too. So adjusting the tracking can't really help? Or, the track rod gets bent, which would change the length between the joints. A retrack would adjust for this. I've never got the whole "it's knocked your tracking out"
