Anyone any idea of the common areas to check for water ingress into the passenger footwell. I had it when I first bought the car in April and assumed it was down to the blocked scuttle drains the I cleared. In this weather I've found the area to be soaked through again with clean water but the scuttles are dry. Can't see any water across the sills from the door
If it's been leaking into the cabin from the blocked scuttle, the whole floor will be wet. Under the carpet is foam that will soak it all up. Have you checked they're not blocked again, especially after Autumn? Doesn't take much, especially if you only just unblocked them enough to let the water out previously. The air-con also can overflow due to it's drain being blocked and that will empty above the passenger foot-well. If you take the inspection panel off the side you should be able to tell if it's been leaking.
Previously I took the passenger side under carpet foam out. Bare metal showing. Fully dried over a number of days and using a heat gun carefully. I cut the sections out and sealed the edges so they would slot back in for future removal and inspections. The scuttle drains were stripped, removed and cleaned at the time. This time the drains are clear. This is not a scuttle issue. I'm particular for removing leaves and debris from the front of the car and the scuttle area to prevent further blockages. The passenger footwell compartment was dry on Wednesday and wet by Saturday. The AC is inop at the moment due to compressor being inop. The water was clean and clear. Anybody got any ideas?
Top corner of the windscreen then? Pull the A-pillar trim back and you might be able to see. My R26 leaked there but on the drivers side. I resealed it with some flow-able silicone which seemed to do the trick. I was actually sat in the car waiting for the rain to stop at home and noticed it dripping on my knee. Inside of the trim was wet through.
Door drains? 2 little slits at either end of the doors. I've read that if they block, water can fill the void of the door until it overflows into the car through the speaker / door card!
Some windscreens were not sealed properly from the factory. Check the sound proofing behind the dash if possible
Yeah that seemed relatively dry. Little damp at the bottom as you would expect from the flooded well.
I'll check that out and remove the trim. The windscreen is cracked on that side but has only penetrated the first layer.
So wet again! Not terrible but the lower foam section under the carpet in the under floor cubby was soaked through. Surrounding area was dry to the front. A pillar dry. Drains at door clear and dry. There was some standing water under the trim across the door sill. Could it be that the door seal isn't fitting correctly or water is collecting at the top and fleeing round to the bottom and running under the door and onto the sill?
I'm in the same boat (lololol) Have a habit of making sure to clear leaves from the front just in case they block the scuttle. I run water thru to make sure that it runs clean. Now we have had some awful rain recently, torrential constant downpours. Passenger footwell is soaked. Scuttles run clean, I don't run the aircon on. I did hit a couple of spots of heavy standing water whilst driving...where would it be getting in tho?
As above in this thread, it's coming through the window into the door which is normal. It's designed to drain through the bottom of the door which is outside of the door seal however if the drains are blocked (mine aren't) or it finds its way on the door card, it can drop down onto the sill inside the door seal and then fall Under it and down into the footwell sound deadening/foam. Just like in my picture above. I tightened my two lower door card bolts by half a turn and this seems to have remedied it.?
Thanks L-1011 I checked the door earlier today and there was water around the bottom i'll check the door card tomorrow and get a dehumidifier out
I lifted my carpet and cut the foam into sections so it was easier to remove and could be dried when needed.
My 250 had water in the floor pockets again this morning (after really horrid rain the past week). No sign of leaves in the scuttle, though a lot of water seemed to come out of the door when I opened it this morning. Sadly, I think I'm done to be honest. I'll need new discs and pads this year and I think the hubs are starting to wear on the one side as I'm noticing the occasional knock, plus of course the 6 year service will be due with the cambelt. It's been a good 5 and a half years, but I think a change is needed.
Exactly the reason why these cars are going to shite. They need a bit of maintenance and folk just punt them on.
try putting a bit of plastic between the door and the doorcard we have had this with a few megane's or if you have time strip out the interior and on a dry day use a hose to find it
So looks like my water issue may have come from some deep water I drove thru With all the rain that's fallen over ~ the last week, the car isn't any wetter. Turned out it's just the lowest part of the foam under the little maintenance holder that's soaked. Pulled off the trim and can't find any signs of leaking so up came part of the carpet, newspapers went down, and now have animal litter to soak up the last bits out of the foam (if that fails I'll just cut the damn thing out)
It won't soak up. I had to cut it out and dry it on a radiator. Took about a day. That was after squeezing it out.
^^This. God dammit. At least there wasn't standing water under the foam, looks like just a freak accident (of my own fault). Have the foam section pulled out (literally came out in my hands) and it's drying inside. Dehumidifier running in the footwell of the car at the minute, can't do any harm.
The Mrs car is currently less seats and drying out properly. Ten minute job. Everything just pulls apart
Good design by Renault isn't it?! Found further wet foam when I went digging more. *sighs* Still only in the passenger footwell tho
Seriously. Get the seats out the way and pull it all out. Drys up overnight fine in the house assuming you squeeze as much as you can out before hand. It's stopping it getting in that's the problem.
