Rubber on tyre valve stem has cracks

  1. I noticed all 4 of my tyre valve stems have cracks at the base where it enters the wheel, cracks look quite nasty but i'm not loosing any air. Don't know much about how these stems are made or how they work, but is the thing that keeps air in 100% rubber or under the rubber is there usually a metal housing for the valve? shall I get these replaced?

  2. Yes, some fitters have brush and silicone pot on hand and delete the rubber and dab load silicone around hole then sink valve into it, last’s longer
