Diff preload?

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by jostheboss, Dec 2, 2013.

  1. So my 250 cup is my first car with a proper diff and although I know how a single seater diff behaves, I want to check whether this is normal!!

When I'm on full lock, the outside wheel appears to judder. As if there's preload in the diff and the plates are grabbing and then jumping.

Does anyone else's do this or am I an anomaly??

  2. Mine does something similar. Feels really odd specially after a few feet.

    I hope this is normal...?

  3. Normal

  4. I guess on full lock there's enough of a differential between wheel speeds to cause it to grip/lock.

Notice it a lot since the weather cooled too as the tyres on the front don't seem to like cold weather.

Sometimes a bit annoying as it sounds like you're making a bit of a get away....

  5. Mine does it on the top of a multistorey shopping centre carpark by me, at crawly speeds aswel

  6. Glad I'm not the only one!
