Cruise control not working

  1. Can anyone help?

For the past few months my cruise control on my 2007 Megane convertible has been randomly cutting out now and again when I'm on the motorway etc. Last week it stopped working completely - Although the cruise & limiter dashboard lights still work (and the horn & audio controls on the steering wheel too), when I press any of the steering wheel cruise controls nothing happens.

I thought it might be the brake pedal sensor, but when I took it to my local garage they said that was ok, but they did a diagnostics test and told me the central rear brake light LED strip on top of the boot wasn't working and believed that was the source of the problem. They told me it wasn’t the LED strip itself but a break somewhere in all the wiring that leads to that light, but told me finding out exactly where was something they couldn't do and required an electrical specialist.

However, having had a look at an old thread on this forum for cruise control problems I came across a post that said that if you also have any clicking when turning around the steering wheel (which i have noticed a bit of lately) and the airbag warning light comes on (mine has been permanently on for a long time due to a rear seatbelt pre-tensioner fault) then the problem is the steering wheel clock spring and the entire airbag squib with the indicator/wiper stalks have to be replaced.

After I found this out I went back to my local garage to ask them what the exact diagnostics fault codes were. They told me they are –
DF026 – sun roof - solenoid valve activation – too long
    DF085 – sun roof - Defect mode

These seem odd as (a) I don’t have a sunroof but a convertible roof which is working fine, and (b) they’re not related to the brake light. However the guys at the garage told me it’s all part of the same wiring loom, and assure me its nothing to do with the steering wheel clock spring as that would have generated its own fault code.

Can anyone confirm whether they are right and/or suggest what I should do next?

    Thanks
    Andy

  2. Hi Andy,

Managed to sort this yet? Mine is doing the same but when I pull the clutch pedal with my left foot the cruise control stays on. The switch that allows you to start witj clutch pressed down also cancels the cruise control i.e. when shifting gears.

Still need to get down there to see if switch can be adjusted though.
