Aren't these the same brakes as appear as an option on the standard 280? Like a previous poster said if the price is a bit over 30K then it may be good value compared to a standard car with the same options + a free 20hp tune up and farty exhaust.

I guess we will only see a Trophy R version if they believe they can take the Nurburgring record with it.

  2. Jeez those wheels look horrific. Rest of it sounds and looks nice. Not sure about the 'new' recaro design. Looks the same other than different material and stitching, but yep...i'll have that...may pop down to my local dealer and stick a few quid down to get one when released. With probable dates for release into 2019 then gives me time to decide if I keep the 275 as well.

  3. In the Evo write up it says the chassis is stiffer than the cup, not sure if I'm reading it incorrectly? It also says the wheels are the same as the black Cup versions but with a red spoke? Again they look different to me?!

  4. The 2-piece disks will have zero effect on the road. They simply help dissipating heat better and that's only ever going to be of benefit for serious track use. The slightly lower unsprung mass is nice but again, no effect at road speed and pretty limited on the track. Cost of consumables should be lower though, at least in theory...I have been very happy with the MK3 set up on track for a couple of years on RBF600 and PFC pads. Pretty spot on for half-serious track work. What was the issue with yours on track ?

Bi material discs are also best part of a grand to replace. Bear that in mind [emoji23]

  6. I am thinking of keeping my 250.....

  7. The reviews seem fairly mixed still, it's hard to gage what the new RS is actually like....i'll wait for the Evo review on it, when they pitch it up against some other motors. It's probably not likely to be as hardcore as the Mk3 but it's 'matured' in line with the competition. Be interested to see if the Trophy or Trophy R will be better.

  8. It just seems a little bit lacking. Then there's the articles around the trophy that highlight what the base model should have been like to start with.

I can understand people looking at the M2 as the next car, a totally different price bracket to the mk3 But a nice step up if you can afford it.

Having read the top gear review, the megane can't fill its mk3 brothers boots. The civic despite being a hot hatch hero is awful looking. The Hyundai does make me smile but it's a Hyundai which leaves the Seat. Sadly there's not enough to go around.

Hopefully owner reviews will give the mk4 some credibility but Renault have done themselves no favours hyping the trophy so soon.

As it stands I can't see a mk4 blessing my drive anytime soon.

  9. They said the same about the 250 compared to the Focus RS and the Megane R26.R, and yet we know how it all ended up.

I remember Steve Sutcliffe saying he simply couldn't keep up with a Focus RS on a mountain road in a 250 on one video, and was very negative about it. Then there was another video where he was saying the Focus couldn't lose him when he was in a Clio 200. It's such a load of toss :tongueclosed:.

Renault have changed how they market the Trophy, it's not a special edition like before, it's a trim level like it's been with the Clio for the past few years. It's the slightly more extreme version for those who want it.

  10. Why would the Trophy drive any differently than a Cup base car ? The 20ps can't make such a big difference can they ?

  11. I wouldn't expect that much difference. But it'll make those tho want a 300bhp car cough up some more cash for pub bragging rights.

Different damping rates and ARB stiffness, it'll probably feel like going from a non cup mk3 to a Cup chassis car

  13. I'm not sure from what the magazines have said. Some have said it's just the Cup chassis while others have said it's harder than the Cup.

On the Clio it was harder than the Cup, and I can confirm the ride on the Clio Trophy is quite firm!

The tech blurb was increased rates, 30% or something IIRC

  15. All the things I read had the rates of the Cup compared to the standard chassis:

    (from Autocar)
"The Megane R.S Trophy uses the Cup chassis as standard. Compared to the regular chassis it boasts 25 per cent firmer shock absorbers, 30 per cent tighter springs and ten per cent stiffer anti-roll bars, while the mechanical limited slip differential is equipped on the front axle."

Even the press release just mentions the Cup chassis:

  16. I never pay any attention to car reviews. Too many agendas...

I’ll test drive the trophy and if I like it I’ll buy one, if not be looking for something else!

All the haters of the 200T make me laugh, I love mine and really rate it. It’s all about personal opinion to me.

Ah my bad, I must of misread that as that being stiffer on the Trophy

  18. I liked mine, but I never loved it. I enjoyed the gearbox at first but now it just frustrates me.

280 Cup coming in a week or so to replace it

  19. Exactly this.

People put so much faith in car reviews but they're garbage. Half of them have already decided what they're going to say before they've even driven the car.

Turbos are rubbish, the twist beam ruined the FK2 Type-R but the MK3 Megane (which has a twist beam) is one of the greatest hot hatches ever. It's all too often drivel in order to suit a narrative rather than being based on facts. It staggers me how little some of them know about cars.

Just drive and make up your own mind, best way.

    Nurburgring lap:

Chassis looks very impressive, incredibly neutral and nailed to the road.

  21. It does look very good, driver looks to be a frequent flyer at the ring given how he throws it around! ( although why does it look like his knees are up by his neck!!) [emoji1][emoji1][emoji1]

I’ll be taking mine to tracks but not risking it like that!

  22. Looks defo very quick, not sure if video is edited but it barely last 7 min 50 of pure driving, i dare to think what it might do in the trophy setup, very quick indeed

  23. Looking good, the guy is a calm and smooth driver, makes it looks easy. I think the Trophy will be very capable, especially with the stickier tyres!! Go on!

  24. Seen my first mk4 yesterday and tbh doesn't really do it for me. Maybes in time it will grow

  25. I don't like the 5 door look of most cars (bar Evos) so I'm the same. I'm sure it'll grow on people and hopefully they'll release a trophy R or something more extreme that makes it worth the upgrade. Looks great from the front mind

  26. Picked up my 280 Cup yesterday, I posted over at the official forum, but though I'd post some pics here too:

The photos don't do the red justice. It's so much darker and deeper in person.

Absolutely love it so far, I'm so glad I swapped the Clio in for it, I'm loving being back in a manual

  27. That looked awesome mate...congrats.

I was not a fan of the wheels, but the detail in your pictures they look really good.

  28. Looks class, especially the back end! Loving the Duster too!

  29. I was all for getting them powder coated black until I saw them in person. I'm really pleased with them!

The Duster is such a great car! We ordered it and the Megane at the same time, it was here within a week . Pulls very well for a 1.2 turbo too!

  30. My only complaint is the boot isn't tall enough for my dog :tearsofjoy:
So it's back to seat covers and sticking the dog in the back seat again!

  31. Looks lovely that. Itching to drive one.

My mate has a Golf R, slightly quicker in a straight line if he gets the gear changes right but can't compete in the corners. For an 8-year-old car, the 250 holds up very well so I'd imagine the new RS will leave it for dust! Although I've heard bad things about the top end on the RS, quick to 60 but then slow.
As soon as I saw 1.8 I was out haha

Nice to see you back in a Megane RS!

Mk4 is such a good looking car, wish Renault done proper wide arches on the MK3 instead of the plastic extensions

  34. Yeah it's great to be back in one. I made a mistake going to the Clio, I just prefer a bigger car.

I don't know why the magazines have said the ride is very hard, I honestly find it quite compliant! Compared to the Clio 220 it's like a limo! It's absolutely no harder than the MK3 Megane.

  35. The rear of them is spot on imo

Yet to see one in the flesh but I love em

  36. I wouldn't exactly say it's getting a glowing review. The proof in the pudding will be when the trophy is out. Let's face it, it's the one everyone wants

  37. Realistically, the one everyone wants will be the face-lifted Trophy that we'll get in a few years time.

That said, there's nothing alarmingly obvious that needs fixing. It's not like it has an invisible speedo like the original 250's did!

  38. Oh how I remember that!! It was like peering into a cavern for it! There were so many threads regarding peeps fiddling with the wiring to make the dash lights ‘always on’. I never bothered, but it was a huge design oversight!!
