R26 Suspension/subframe part

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Chris79, Apr 7, 2018.

  1. I’ve been stripping the front end down for a complete refresh of the suspension and steering. After many broken tools and having to revert to cutting equipment, finally got it all out. Absolutele mission but satisfied as I can start rebuilding! I’ve ordered all the parts as described in the replacement parts thread but I would like to know if the plate is replaceable that connects the subframe to the chassis on the sides. It’s the part with 4 bolts 13mm with torx centre drive . Mine are very corroded so would like to replace if anyone can point me in the direction of part number or where to buy? Also there is a “J” shaped arm from chassis to wishbone with a bush either end. Also very corroded and bushes cracked so would like to replace those too. Again, any information on what and where I can get these parts would be much appreciated. Cheers

  3. Where you able to get the replacement "J" arms?

I'm about to strip my front end to do a refresh too. No corrosion but want to replace the bushes on the J arms. Can't seem to find just the bishes though...

  5. I'm doing something very similar to you guys and wondering if you can help me.

On the passenger side there's a connector with a piece of foam around it that I've no clue what its for.

It's tied with the ABS sensor coming from engine bay to the outer chassis rail.

Pics below. Any ideas what its for??

  7. Don't think so Matt no. It did have the latter phase 2 lights in when I bought it but I've returned the lights to factory standard again

  8. Evening chaps. Thanks for getting back. Basically what I've found out so far is that the parts in the first picture are called lateral cheeks and seem to only be available from Renault main dealer. I had mine sand blasted for powder coating and when they came back, they were like tea bags and weak as hell. Bought new ones from Renault Portsmouth for £13 each so no big deal. The front subframe supports (j shape) are hard to come by. There's a lot of parts on eBay etc and the actual numbers stamped on the metal part of the ones on my car match those of the ones I've found on eBay. However, the top bush where the mount meets the chassis is different on the r26. As trophyboy has posted, part numbers for these are 8200364827 and 8200364828. I will be sourcing these from Renault too, as after endlessly searching for them, I've found nothing. Ive decided to remove subframe now too and am going to powder coat it, fit new bushes, rebuild the steering rack with track focus bush, black series arb poly bushes in, new lower engine torque mount from evol engineering. Leaving nothing to chance on this front end rebuild!

  10. Great info Chris! I've wondered if the subframe support bushes can be replaced with poly bushes. Would probably be a custom bush turned on a lathe since I also seem to find zero such bushes aftermarket.

I'm in South Africa mainland so have almost zero rust on any parts of the car. Only the rubber bushes wear out over here.

My TFD steering rack bush is in the mail. Got my Powerflex handling pack, arb bushes (black series) and the gearbox insert last week. All engine mount inserts are already installed.

Do you know if the 225/r26 megane subframe is the same as a normal megane?

I've bought some poly subframe bushes (about 20GBP) which I hope fits on my sub('06 F1).

    Here's a pic of the bushes: e241c6e8fc5a5e6e62a4a607ef9f41a3.jpg 0c14c5335e8b83fd2e744dad8764eda5.jpg c68ed005cd5d9cdd24a45df47d356834.jpg

  11. The above bush is a replacement for this bush(see image) . You only remove the inner sleeve and rubber, then clean the outer sleeve (still in subframe) and then press in this bush. Finally just insert the inner sleeve(cleaned off old rubber) into this bush.

  12. I'm not 100% sure on this but from all the research I've done so far, the subframe appears to be the same for a few Renault models. The part number for the rear bushes appear to be these - eBay item number 112266508631. Corresponding Part Numbers shown on there. The ones you've bought also pop up on the search under the part number so assuming they'll fit. Can't imagine Renault (as daft as they can be!) would bother altering the subframe specifically for the rs models but its Renault so who knows! Will be getting a set of those poly subframe mounts you have so thanks for the heads up.

  13. I'll just tripple measure with a venier before taking the old ones out.

The Problem Solving Bushes factory is located in South Africa so I got them for dirt cheap. See they quite a bit more expensive on ebay.

  14. Saw them on eBay for £17 delivered, seems cheap enough here too!

  15. Definitely worth the coin even if they don't fit  compared to Renault wanting like 700GBP for a new subframe....

Just need someone to make the J arm bushes now.

  16. I'll be calling Renault tomorrow for a price on them. I'm not sure how feasible it is to change that top bush on its own. The top and bottom bush are severely perished on mine so complete units required.

  17. Great stuff mate cheers. Looks like it's all been removed so will strip that cable back and do away with it.

I'm currently doing exactly same as you on my rebuild and its worth doing especially if your having it all powder coated [emoji41][emoji41]

Those rear subframe bushes are a bit of a nightmare to do and I'd ask your powder coater to mask off the entry point for the bush as it made mine super tight to get the bush pressed back. So much so it started bending the subframe.

  19. No worries mate. Yeah surprising what a touch of paint can do to making thing tight. Hopefully have a similar looking set of subframe parts next week. Looks very tidy.

  24. Christ, that looks intense. I wish I could afford a nut and bolt rebuild on mine! Can I ask what tear wishbone bushes you have as they look like the lemforder ones that are for sale on mister auto. Cheers

  25. Cheers Chris. It has been intense and wouldn't like to add up the cost and I've done most of it myself including all the blasting/painting. Only thing I had to sub out was the zinc plating and actual powdercoating.

I've a thread in the project section if you fancy a read of it. Make a brew first as its a few pages long [emoji23][emoji23]

All my bushes/mounts are Febi from Mister Auto. If you zoom in on my pic below you can see the 5 digit part numbers on the bags/boxes pal.

Hope this helps. I found Mister Auto to be the cheapest place to buy these as i researched quite a bit [emoji106] e5e4bbaf36d6f0d91e35fead270908f2.jpg

  27. They were a brand called OCAP and their the same as a Renault Espace mate

£6 Each from Euro Car Parts

  28. Cheers, I’ve got all the bits already just those bushes look like the lemforder ones (which I bought from MA only to find the bore was 2 mm bigger than the oe ones!) So I ended up picking up some oe ones for £8 each and now fitted. Im quite fortunate too as my neighbour owns an engineering business so is doing any blasting/ machining that’s I need for free, it all helps! Costs can get out of hand with these but it’s definitely worth doing everything right once due to the ballache of having to go back in. Hoped to have mine ready by end of may, then June, now July. Will take a look at your thread. Cheers

  29. Cool sticks, I got the Febi ones for the Espace after getting the incorrect ones which was the normal Megane ones.

I suspect you also have an idea of what research all this took to get the correct aftermarket parts

  30. Ok so spoke to Renault today and they’re quoting about £140 for the pair of subframe tie rods. So me and the parts guy started laughing at the price and decided to end the call there. I’ve since found these guys, whose prices on the site look really good.
    https://www.renaultgenuineparts.com/
Spoke to them this evening and he’s calling back first thing Monday so fingers crossed.

there quite expensive as you add on VAT

  32. Ha, yeah they are actually. There’re actually a bit cheaper for these parts than Renault dealer but not drastically.

A brand called Sasic make the part or a copy of. Best part of it was it was on there for £5.96 delivered free. Result! Turned up today and absolutely spot on it actually has the Renault stamp and part numbers on it so maybe they make the originals? Left hand side I can get only from Italy or Germany by the looks of things so bit the bullet and paid the £60 to Renault as works out similar money once postage factored in. £66 for both I can live with!
Sasic part numbers are 4005530 and 4005531 if anyone is interested in tracking some down.

Evening mate, I’ve just installed these bushes in the subframe but they appear to be being squeezed out of the bottom and end up proud to the bottom of the cente sleeving. Wondered how you found fitting them?

  35. Morning mate, I did my subframe overhaul 2 weeks ago and forgot to post my findings here. When we got to the subframe bushes I measured everything with a vernier and saw that narrowing of the old sleeve. Since I can't get new subframe bushes in a day or two over here I decided not to install these due to that narrowing of the old outer sleeve.

Was thinking I'd get some standard bushes first before installing the PSBushes and have the stocks as backup.

Coming to your issue, seems the PSB is a bit longer than the standard bush? Would trimming the lower bit to almost match the inner sleeve length not work? How is the inner sleeve feeling? Is it tight and not moving around at all when you take a screwdriver and insert it into the bottom of the inner sleeve and move it left and right?

  36. On your first image it almost seems like the top of the inner sleeve can still go down a bit or it might just be the image.

  37. Morning mate, thanks for getting back.
Yes I was concerned about the narrowing of the outer part of the bush as it looked too tight to even get the polyurethane in but with a bit of silicone grease it pushed in by hand.
Had to use a quick grip to squeeze the sleeve in but it was bloody tight.
I’ve extracted the sleeves this morning and stuck them in the freezer on -25 for the day. Will give it another go tonight, see if the steel shrinks a touch!

  38. Hi Chris,

So what is the final verdict on the PSBushes? Did you manage to get the sleeve through after freezing them?

  39. Yes mate, had to use a 12 inch Irwin quick grip with the subframe on the garden table, using the table to clamp it to. Took some force and snapped the table but they went in! There was still the slight overhang on the underside of the pin so I just trimmed that off. Hopefully picking the car up from the mot place today so will get to drive it for the first time in 5 months!

  40. Great to hear! Let me know how it drives when you get it back!

After my suspension refresh mine is great again! Just having some misfiring engine issues now so can't enjoy the car.
