Nurburgring R26.R chases Lightweight BMW. M4 Track Car

Discussion in 'Track Days & Track Driving' started by R26Man, Mar 28, 2017.

  1. Firstly....apologies for the film quality. As most of you know I am pretty useless with trying to get a decent filming set up. Anyhow, I do these film clips for others entertainment and hope you enjoy..
This one is from last Sunday evening, the last lap of the day after the crowds have gone and the fastest lap yet in the new R26.R. The boost controller is still being set up hence the wheel spin as the traction control is fully off.....oh and the tyres are past their best!

New Direzzas to be fitted soon so hope for some more improvements. :grinning:
    Safe driving

  2. 7.44btg makes this the fastest 'Megane 2' lap on youtube. What was your fastest btg time in your old R26?

I am there on the CircuitDays Trackday in 2 weeks in my R26

This car was for sale last year in a small village near myself in Oxfordshire, a friend and i went to view it and now we may see it at the 'ring again in person.

  3. Very nice lap..

It ended up in Scotland but got sold on not long after as the previous owner bought a Clio Cup racer instead, Mega thing but needed a bit of work to be properly capable on track

  5. Yeah mate i was commenting on that facebook thread yesterday and saw Gav inform of this being his old car

  7. Be interested to know what the Facebook page is?

I bought the car from Gavin in December 2016 who took it down from Scotland to Paul at RS Tuning for me who then gave it a good look over and a run on the dyno to check and re-tune the engine. Everything engine wise was OK (Paul Murray built this engine for himself and it was in his Grey R26.R) so the car became mine. Paul did some needed work on the engine installation as it was not entirely up to the standard required and at the same time I installed a 200 cell cat.

Test drive from Leeds to the Ring with no issues where I refurbished the fuel system, cooling system, hoses, new discs, ENDLESS pads, stud kit, 19mm wheel spacers, (so wheels clear suspension on big compressions), fluids, service, Piper Cross large cone air filter and the installation of a NITRON R-1 suspension system with corner weighting to freshen up the car. Also took out the original SABELT seat and steering wheel to keep them fresh and installed a RECARO fixed back with SCHROTH harnesses and OMP steering wheel.

First track outing at an airfield for fine tuning in Feb 2017. Car came with YOKOHAMA AD048R tyres but they are OK for testing. New front FEDERAL FZ201 tyres fitted March and DIREZZA'S on order for the 2017 driving season.

Car has dyno at 466 b.h.p but with the boost controller turned down I run it at about 375b.h.p as the track is still cold and otherwise wheel spin is an issue. I also intend to protect he engine even though it's built for heavy power and use. The car is a BLAST and is easy to drive when you get the boost control sorted although it's all about changing driving style. It is not exactly perfect for the Nurburgring Norschleife track as it involves lots of on-off boost in traffic and swapping gears...but on a clear track the car is EPIC! I have two others R26.R's and have owned other R26's and this is in a different league in terms of power and with the sweetest handling after the suspension upgrade. (See other recent vid's on here).
OK that's the story.....hope it's of some interest....hope to see some forum members over here in the year.
    Safe driving

  8. In my other R26's with around 289 b.h.p lap times were low 8mins.....I used FEDERAL 595 tyres then which have a limit, after which I think you have to go up a gear. Getting to know your car and the track is also incredibly important. Quick laps sometimes happen but fun is my main ambition for lapping NOT the time. It's a good social scene, great events and meeting other drivers to share a passion with.

  9. Very interesting. It confused me as the old private number plate in Gav's ownership is now on another R26.R in Oxford which i confused for this car being back in Oxford.

There was a post on megnesport.net facebook page of the video Thilo captured from behind where Gav informed us of the car being exported.

You have done quite a lot of work on the car this winter. I've noticed you dont have R26.R headlights on the car anymore, i take it you put another set of R26 lights in to be LHD?

  10. Love the car and all the videos you do, brilliant to watch. Any chance your at the ring mid June 15-18? Would love to see this in the flesh.

  11. Well spotted! Headlights are changed for LHD with the originals tucked away. The registration plate was of no interest to me and so we agreed to take it off at point of sale and revert to the original number.

Unfortunately my wife has also been shown the video from Thilo and I am under some pressure to either cool the enthusiasm or sell the car!!!! She loves the standard car but is nervous of the speed of this one.....me....I love it and it surprises loads of fast car drivers here with the potential.
    Safe driving.

  12. Hi Corey,
As I live here all the summer I am pretty sure I will be around! Why not p.m before coming over and I would be happy to show you the car.

  13. Brilliant I'll make sure we do thanks!
