Dash Cams

  1. Does anyone on here run with a dash cam for their normal driving use?

At work there is one in almost every vehicle I drive, I like the protection they give me (they have come to my defense several times!) so am considering them for my own cars.

The range in price is massive, however with things like this, price isn't always indicative of the quality of the product.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

  2. I'd like to know about these too.

  3. Google techmoan.

Currently have a mobius cam in the front of mine, hoping to get a rear one setup at some point.

  4. Roadhawk are a decent outfit, good bit of kit too

  5. Cheers chaps, I'm liking the one featured by the Techmoan chap, I hadn't come across that one.

  6. If you have an iPhone and a windscreen mount there's a good app called Witness. It records a video (obviously) with sound, GPS speed etc.

Worth a shot for an app that's under £2.

  7. Blackvue cameras are great, I've got one in my 172 and will be going in to my Meg when it arrives on Friday.

  8. I got blackvue....good piece of kit. Discreet, excellent images, easy use and set up. Looked into a lot of systems before going with this

I would agree. I've had a Roadhawk in my 200 since 2009 and it's been great. Not the cheapest, but does the job very well IMO

  10. I've got a Blackvue a well.... Just make sure you go for the HD ones - I didn't and although the footage is good, it's not what I would class as perfect. I'm going to get a RoadHawk for the front and move the Blackvue to the rear.

  11. A bit of an epic thread bump, how are you wiring these into your Megs? the one i have in my clio ATM, i have plugged into the back of my headunit as it has rear usb, i dont want to plug it into the front one in the Meg 250 as i want the cable to be out of sight and i will need that plug for my phone

  12. i use the plug in the back of the arm rest, cable up into roof lining and down door pillar, under back seat and then in, not great but nobody's ever in the back of mine. Need to be aware of the air bags though (above drivers door).

  13. Got a chinese one off ebay in mine. Does the job but it's typical Chinese quality! Does the job though but I'm looking to buy a better quality 'UK' one - can you get a useable one for around £50?

  14. I have got a DDpai M6 + in my Clio, think they are good. will most likely buy another one, as i can not be arsed to unwire it, and try and pull the mount off the windscreen

  15. Use a Nextbase 312GW in mine with a hardware kit. Wire tucks under the edge of the rear view mirror housing, under the headlining and down the passenger side A pillar trim to the fuse box where it connects with a fuse tap supplied in the hardware kit. Turns on and off automatically. Has a magnetic mount so you can remove in seconds from the windscreen suction mount without having to disconnect any wires. Not tried the wifi connection but easy to get the HD video by connecting to a pc. Good quality unit. Bought a second one for my wife's car. about £90 + £20 for the hardware kit.

  16. Just bought the same one for myself for the R26 and my mum for her Juke.
How much of a fiddle was it to install the hardwire in the Meg? I ordered that too, can't stand messy wires!
Do you have anything for the rear or is it not overly necessary?

  17. Easy to hardware. I could just tuck the wire under some of the rear view mirror, then under the roof trim and then under the passenger side A pillar. If you pull the end panel off the dash you can feed the wire to the back of the fusebox and then just tap in to that with a mini fuse tap provided in the hardware kit. I tapped into the stereo fuse, second one down from the top in the middle. Takes about 10 mins. Haven't got anything for the rear. Front has to be mounted below the paint dots on the windscreen as the suction doesn't stick to those.

Anyone know the best location to hardwire one of these on a mk3? Is there a fuse you can bunny hop off of the passenger side like the mk2?

  24. Wouldve thought itd be the same. I'm tapped into the stereo 15amp fuse with the nextbase hardwire kit, tenner off ebay
