275 EU6 engine derating on track ?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by nickfrog, Aug 3, 2016.

  1. The following thread makes slightly uncomfortable reading. I wasn't too worried what the guy was saying but not too sure now. I will try to go and see the dealer who reckons it affects this engine but my German is non-existent.

  2. Hmmm highly unlikely - on what basis would the car decide to detune... That would be mental to try and code in

More likely - higher temps, higher engine temps, turbo simply not performing as well

Even on a hot day a turbo car can feel sluggish

  3. Could happen on any car, if the inlet->intercooler all reach and go beyond their capacity for heat or capacity to exchange heat to the air the performance will degrade along with the ambient temperature having an effect on the base line power like neil says.

The guy has 15 posts and owns a Honda, so.... you know.

  4. Standard ECU torque and fuel limiting due to temperature. Not permanent.

  5. I have a E6 275 and it indeed cuts turbo pressure when pushed hard. After half a lap on the ring I only have 220hp on the monitor and after a few minutes it comes back alive. Very irritating and hopefully a remap Will resolve it.

  6. Yes there is remap to resolve it.
    Should be under warranty .

  7. Where did you get that information from?

  8. From renault, works there
Will depend on the software already in there.

  9. Ah right ok

Do you know how/when we can go about getting the remap done under warranty?

  10. Go into the dealership and ask for an software update

  11. Not always that straight forward. Some need a code entering, supplied only for certain fault codes.
And it will normally be on a customer complaint of the check injection warning the light on.
No harm in asking them to check though.

  12. The info is correct. There is a new software that correct the over sensitive knock sensor. Sensor is calibrated over sensitive that he piks up normal sounds and think that there is a real knock, then the ECu lowers boost, ignition etc.

  13. Makes sense.

  14. Thank you Sokol. Are you aware of any UK dealers having done the update ? I don't want to spend weeks reinventing the wheel and convincing the dealer there is an issue.

  15. Hiya. Could you please share your source of info and if you know of any UK dealer who may have done the update ?

  16. Filled the car up with 102 on the last ring trip and no power loss... So it is the Knock sensor

  17. Thanks for that. Excuse the silly question but as I can only get 99, does your answer mean that there is no Renault remap solution or that the paranoia of the knock sensor can be cured electronically ? I am trying to understand this issue before I speak to the dealer as I know they'll just look at me puzzled....

  18. Mine Will be going to the dealer on the 23rd of august. I called them and they only know if there is an update when the car is there and connected to the computer...

  19. Let us know how you get on

  20. Finally had time to pick the car up from the dealer. There was indeed a software update and on the first few runs it seems it sorted the derating. Didn't have the time of the road to test it out to be 100% Sure but I'm pretty Sure it's fixed!

  22. Has this update reached the UK yet? Is it a quick/easy job?

  23. It's just a software update so it isn't difficult. Don't know how long it takes.

  24. Yes it's in uk, has been for a while.
Normally takes up to half an hour.

  25. I can confirm this!

@nickfrog I did also see the Pistonheads thread, and this is also being discussed at other forums across Europe.
UK dealers are aware, and my car (due for delivery) has already been updated.

Not all SW versions need updating and it only seems to be a certain version of the EU6 cars that suffer from power loss due to the mentioned knock sensor mapping.

  26. Thank you - much appreciated. My dealer is not a RS dealer so I wondered if that update had a name or a code to save a bit of time ?

  27. I have the SW version number somewhere. Must be in office, so I'll post it then!

Edit: not sure if my dealer are a RS specific one to be honest...

    Edit 2:
    Found it.
Apparently you need Software version 4500, calibration 183 (or later).

Renault apparently will only reflash cars were drivers complain about reduced power (boost) in heat, after giving it some stick, or after driving on very bad roads.

Root cause seems to be that the ECU responds far too sensitive on anything the knocking sensor does.

  28. Is there any way to find out what software version my car has?

  29. Alex. Yours is not affected. Mine is.

    Think about it.

  30. Haha!

  31. FYI - Driven a March delivered Cup S. Problem was noticeable. Once driven spiritedly, car reduced boost (by feel and according to display), feels like timing is changed too.

Feels like the car looses 30bhp+.
    Update time.

  32. Derating???

  33. De rating is definitely the wrong word. Due to a programming fault (incorrect software) the car (limited series of cars) may have less performance in certain conditions.

  34. My Cup-S was delivered last month, software update was done for me before I took delivery.

  35. Had another tracksession today and I had no deration what so ever so the update works!

  36. My car already had calibration 183 when they scanned it today. They loaded calibration 184 instead, just in case.

  37. Hi guys,
I am experiencing this issue too,
Rang Renault Nottingham this morning, very unhelpful, apparently they checked and there's no update available for my car?
Bollocks, they won't know until they check software version on Renault Clip, don't really want to take it there now, I know they will fob me off and I don't want to have to take the morning off work for that!
I will double check my software number on my Renault clip, shame it's not connected to their database or I would do it myself!
    Thanks

  38. Interesting one this chaps. My car went in today to have a rattle sorted and a new seat base for the recaro. I supplied them with the info re- software version 4500 and calibration 183 and it meant nothing to them. Can any of you U.K. Driver's let me know which dealers sorted this for you. I'll put Chris, the service manager, at Holdcroft Hanley in touch with them. Many thanks in advance.

  39. Hi JonnyB,
Had the same issue today with Renault, the workshop controller asked me if I could get the details of any dealerships that have done the update on here, so he could speak with them also. I will get the guy I dealt with today to ring Holdcroft Hanley if you like so they can suss it out between themselves?? Haha

  40. Mine went to "paesmans Hasselt" in Belgium, maybe your dealer could email them and ask for Tim [emoji6]
