R26 Disable auto rear wiper when reversing.

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by Leigh, Aug 12, 2018.

  1. It annoys me, for various reasons, that the rear wiper operates when engaging reverse- even when the wipers are off!
Is there a way to disable it?

It doesn’t always do it, only when I’ve been using my wipers or there’s water on the screen (not sure which?)

I’ve been searching around and can’t find much info other than ‘what’s your problem, just turn your wipers off!’ Which doesn’t seem to work for me.

I’ll unplug it if necessary.....yes it annoys me that much.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  2. Seems strange on my mk3 clio if I have the wipers fully in the off position (up on the stalk) it won’t wipe the rear window,

But if auto wipers are on it will wipe and like you it bugs the living piss out of me, if you don’t find a solution maybe you should de wiper or unplug it

  3. I’ll try it again tomorrow just to be sure I’m not going mad. I’ll try a few scenarios and report back. Thanks.

  4. You can turn it off in the settings menu on the Mk3. is there nothing there on the Mk2

  5. I’m not aware of a settings menu on the mk2.

It’s more like a horse and cart compared to the mk3 ha ha.

Anyway, I’ve tried getting it to operate today and guess what........I can’t! Doh!

So either I was being a donk and the wipers were on auto or there’s electrical gremlins somewhere making it operate....either is plausible!

I’ll try again when I get chance.

  6. Sounds like dodgy earth to me, definitely should only come on with you wipers turned on

  7. I’ve tried again and can’t get it to do it!

Must have been me being a donkey and actually had the wipers on the first setting.

I’ll keep and eye on it.

    Thanks guys for the responses.

  8. Sounds like you had it on first click down(auto) when on auto and it senses rain or even just water on the windscreen it will wipe the rear window when you put it in reverse,

But when it’s in any other setting it does not operate the rear wipe even when you put it in reverse, you have to use the rear wipers own control, by twisting the end of the stalk (the one that you have to turn to make the rear washer work)
