New RenaultSport Megane

  1. Emm, well once the novelty wears off the true car will be slowly understood.

    Good stuff.....premium product, manual and auto, slick design from front and rear, brave colours, 4WS might do something. Some good dynamic personalisation.

    Not so good.....only 280 bhp, gonna be a big and heavy lump of a car (weight tbc), no adaptive suspension, not a looker in profile, lost a lot of the raw edge in pursuit of quality finish, potentially too mature and a bit underpowered. Trophy should have been out on day one.

    Summary......not bad but very Clio 200T like and lack of power to weight will lose it the hot hatch crown. Be interested in the UK price structure. What will make someone looking at a Seat, VW or Honda decide this is so much better?

    I'll be interested in what the trophy has and looks like - I'm just not impressed with its looks - prob a good drive blah blah it's got this that and the other blah blah blah = boring I want to know how well it goes
    At least they kept the brembos

  10. but thats just it..i dont think its the number 1 priority anymore.
    Its going the Golf R route..toned down to be a better allrounder.

    You would think to appeal to a wider audience, and increased sales.

  13. or this .......my uncle had one... I remember as a little kid asking my dad why he had it in the garage but never used it....apparently he couldn't get any spares for it. I thought it was a piece of shit then and I was only 7

    The lada riva was just a old fiat anyhow.
    The russians just bought all the rights and tooling, when Fiat chucked it in the bin.

    Buy your 275`s now..if you dont..the value will go through the roof when people realize,that type of focused car doesnt exist anymore.

    My grandad had a yellow lada and then a orange lada and they were very smart compared to the moskovitch....thats how bad it was

    when ever my daughter sees my R26 on the trailer....she says "daddys car is broken again" she will grow up thinking Renaults are unreliable haha
     
  25. I think it is worth noting that, while it's "only" 280bhp, which isn't as much as the Civic etc, it is more than the Focus ST and Golf GTI, so a bit of perspective is needed. The Focus is pretty lardy too. I think releasing the Trophy immediately would have been a double edged sword. They want to continue the hype for a longer period and get some sales out of the cooking model before releasing more hardcore versions. It's the method they used with previous generations so no great surprise.

    As you say, price is critical, along with the verdict of the testers come next year. A bit too soon to make too many judgments. I think the choice of 1.8 is telling though. I wonder how long it will be before the rest of the C-segment hot hatches start to downsize.

    Some beasts there. I know someone who used to have a Yugo like this:

    What a monumental turd of a car. He bought it new and it began oxidising almost immediately.

    That seems to be the theme these days. Manufacturers are trying to create cars that can do everything. Broad appeal is where it's at.

    That's the segment though. Most people who buy a C-segment car don't want a three-door, so there is no sense in manufacturers making them anymore. They can't produce a three-door version solely for the sporting model. The cost doesn't justify the return. Most people are quite happy to have a five-door car.

  26. lol ....my granddad on my dads side had one of them for years and years..he only had a motorbike licence so could not drive a normal car....steering box went one day and killed him as a result of the accident

  29. hmm i like that....trouble is if i pop out and buy it the mrs will go spac at me, she wants me to get rid of two of my cars as she says the house looks like a parking lot....which i much admit it does at the mo, especially as my mum and dad flew out to Australia today and i offered for them to park the car our the front of ours
     
  30. I'm pretty sure his had a different grill to that one. I think it had Zastava badges, but he always referred to it as a Yugo. It was E-reg. I can't claim to be an expert on them though!

  33. You're going to struggle in the future then. I think VAG are about the only people bothering with three-doors now aren't they? I doubt it will last much longer either. There just isn't the demand. How many three-door Golf GTIs do you see?

    Would like to get behind the wheel of one next spring and see what it's like...

  36. oh if that were true...I wouldnt hear the last of it...if i sell two cars and then sell the r26 i will then be able to upgrade on the quiet...i keep it in storage so is out of sight and if i got a silver one she would never know the difference anyway
