New RenaultSport Megane

  1. I know it's not a popular opinion on here, but I like it too, even the looks. I wish it wasn't 5-door, but if I have to have one, at this point I'd chose the Honda over what I've seen of the Renault. Max price for the Type-R GT? £37,240 with £3700 worth of carbon bits.

  2. I like the Type-R too. It's a bit lairy and marmite, but I actually quite like that about it. I hated the last one when it came out, but it's grown on me a lot.

  3. Same as that, although only really in white. I saw a black one on the road the other week and they do look mad!

Dont make me have to tidy this up again please, I'm bored of it now. I'll be stopping people replying in here if it carries on.

  6. I do think it looks pretty good. Looks quite mean even in disguise [emoji41]

  7. but tested on flat german roads..lets see what it can do on our pot holed crap.
although it does state the suspension has been reworked.

full test in `topgear` mag this month against all its competitors.
havnt got round to reading it yet..

  8. looks like a Hyundai front, side and rear..anonymous styling..yuk.

  9. nothing ever looks great with the camo wrap, lets wait and see, its going to need some good colours.

  10. Not much you can do with the big 5 door Megane GT thingy. Just pumped up arches and bumper tweaks.

Liking the way the even bigger Renault badge is undisguised.

  11. Where the Honda has also improved is with the adaptive damping modes and independant rear suspension. More supple on the road and better on the track. All at the push of the button.

Renault is still sticking with the 2 different models with fixed rate Cup or non-Cup suspension set-ups.

  12. Fixed rate damping is probably a good thing from our perspective. As most people on here are likely to buy used examples, it's one less expensive thing to go wrong lol.

  13. Maybe they will compromise and put a mechanical knurled knob on the Cup damper ala Ohlins lol

  14. I think the rear lights need to be less wide, that long thin strip is pointless, just a small strip would've been alot better.
Also the Renault badge is nothing great to look at, why make it that big?

They just did those things to try and spice it up a bit i guess, doesn't work for me

It works on the Talisman, not on the smaller megane.

  15. Courtesy of the Renault forum, some more shots. Maybe the aspect of some of the images doesn't give a true feel but the first de-cloaked images. Big diamond:

  16. the front end is hideous..Rear is actually ok.
The front headlights, are plain awful.
And that fkn badge..why so large..so ugly ,with all that horrible shiny chrome.

    whos styling these cars dammit!..

  17. It doesn't look as good from these pics as the Civic Type-R.

  18. I reckon it will be one of those cars that only looks good from certain perspectives. Not very homogeneous unlike the 3 door MK3 RS coupe which is very easy on the eye from any angle.

  19. The rear looks awful. Its looks really fat. I dont like the front or the rear lights.

I wont be buying one, espesh as its 5 door only!

  20. Pics make it look like an Otto model

  21. No surprises so far really. The large badge was always a given. I think it looks ok. Not great, but ok. The proof will be in the pudding.

  22. Fish eye camera isn't helping it

  23. I actually really like the rear but not so sure on the front. I expect it will look good in real life though. Give it a chance lads ffs![emoji14]

  24. I like the rear bumper, looks very aggressive with the vents in the side. Flared front wings look good.

Some of the details are there but some proper overall pics are needed to see how it all ties together.

  25. I know this is the GT development mule and the RS will have wider arches and a bit more front/rear bumper action, but the side profile will be similar and it's just not a great shape for Renaultsport to be working with. The dynamics had better be spot on.

  26. looks similar to when subaru made the impreza into a hatch..with similar disastrous results, that killed the model with 1 foul swoop.

  27. Christ you really do need to give it a chance. The Audi S3 looks similar and it looks awesome in the flesh. RS are going for a more adult look with this car I feel. I am wondering how much back tracking will be done when the final model is released. The rear looks hard as nails. Yes it's fat why is that bad? Porsches are fat and they look immense. [emoji848]

  28. The final Sept release will reveal all for sure, but the Megane GT is already much bigger than an Audi S3, so just how big, heavy and expensive do people want a Megane RS to be? Moves it into a different category.

  29. I think it looks quite good, but I doubt I would ever buy a new Renault.

  30. That used to be the Renaultsport territory, knock em out cheap, dynamic and fun. Best to buy them used as they depreciate like fook and then just hammer them and track them.

Look at all the older Clio and Megane stuff gunning around on a track day. The Megane 250/265/275 will drift into that as they get cheaper, but the Clio 200/220T is a dud in that respect and this new Megane may go the same way. All those NA Clio 172/182/197/200's queuing up in the pit lane will slowly become the Fiesta ST in the future. Renault has turned its back on the market it did so well.

  31. Im not sure that the RS models do depreciate anymore than any other brands?

  32. The shape is much the same as most other cars in the segment, which is dictated by the needs of the cooking models. There are better looking cars in the segment and worse ones. All the RS guys can do is work with what they are given.

Roll on September, looking forward to seeing some proper overall pictures.

  33. Out of interest what car do you drive?

  35. You know..... it could look realllly good in Matt black...

  36. is anything he said not sound though?..doesnt really matter what he drives.
Renault had a great run with the `big engine, small car formula` in the clio..they shifted thousands.
Emission regs killed that formula, with the new generation cars, just not having that sort of wide appeal.

Renault are just falling in line with everyone else with there range of hot hatches..probally hoping to cater for the masses rather than the hardcore driver that would live with compromises for better handling.

trophy R could possibly be the end of the line for hardcore renault hot hatches...i hope not.

  37. Not an unreasonable question on a car forum.....
I don't think emission regs has anything to do with it. Car manufacturers are producing more powerful engines than ever. My m5 produces 560 bhp and big torque from very low revs and is the current model....i expect they produced a lot less in early 2002 era prob around 390 ish but don't quote me on that spec

  38. He wont say what car he has, which I find very odd.

No one cares if he has a Nissan or a BMW or even nothing.

  39. But it might help if he had a meg on a rsmeg site or was going to get one or had one.......buts that's just my personal view
